. This month also marks two years since Patrick was diagnosed with ALS. Patrick’s symptoms started in February 2022 and after weeks of tests, he was diagnosed with ALS on May 6th, 2022. Patrick continues to fight ALS with everything he’s got.

Patrick is a fighter! He is currently recovering at the hospital after making the personal choice to get a tracheostomy and continue to fight against ALS.
For months he had been using a mask 24/7 to help with his breathing. After talking to the medical team for weeks, Patrick
We would like to give an update: While Pat remains in the George Washington ICU, yesterday he was taken off the ventilator and has returned to bi-pap assistance. The hope is that he can return home on the bi-pap alone without more invasive breathing assistance.

He has pneumonia and is on full ventilation, a blood clot in his lungs, his stomach is in knots, among other things.
ALS is unforgiving. It does not affect the mind, but it does. It does not
Patrick is home and doing well! He was discharged on Friday after spending 18 days at the hospital. In addition to getting the tracheostomy, he battled two pneumonia infections. Patrick continues to show resilience through it all.

Patrick’s feeding tube was fully clogged for 24 hours until this morning. He was not able to get any feedings or medications during that time. This caused him to be awake throughout the night as he can’t fall asleep on his own.

We want to congratulate Pat on being named the WCAC Coach of the Year! During his battle with ALS he has continued to love and coach his team with the same passion that he always has. Tonight St. John’s will play Gonzaga in the WCAC Semifinals at 6:15pm at American University!
On May 6, 2022, Pat received his official diagnosis. Three months later he informed his team at St. John’s. He then went on to help lead them to a WCAC championship in an epic final game against Paul VI.
