Soft, romantic knitting patterns for knitters seeking vintage-inspired details and a touch of whimsy. Also here: gardening, tea, a place to find peace and quiet

I took up knitting in law school to help cope with stress in a healthier way. 15 years later, I’m no longer practicing, and now I design knitting patterns. Oops.

After a recent fruitful chat with quite a few knitters over on Threads, I decided to write up a blog post about why I don’t use the phrase “selfish knitting” and why it feels so icky to so many of us. Here it is, in case you’re interested: https://t.co/j6TA8Wlauf

It's common to hear knitters use the phrase "selfish knitting" to describe projects made for themselves. I don't use it. Here's why.

I recently saw a broken-down postal delivery truck getting towed back to the main local post office on a flatbed. I love those funny little putt putt trucks, so to see one in such a sad state was surprisingly distressing. Please send get-well wishes to the little mail truck!

Honestly, I always had a soft spot for Mary Bennett. It's not her fault she's overly earnest and struggles to pick up on social cues. Not everyone can be light of foot with a sparkling wit, but I bet she'd make a steadfast friend.
BBC is developing a 10-part ‘PRIDE AND PREJUDICE’ spinoff series titled ‘THE OTHER BENNETT.’ It will focus on Mary Bennett, Lizzy’s unassuming and oft-overlooked middle sibling.

One of the teachers at my kid’s school gave me a thumbs up for driving safely this morning, which I think means I aced Drop Off Line, a thing I didn’t even know I desperately wanted until just now.

I learned more than I ever wanted to know about myself when my then-toddler's toys visited a pretend drive-through and one of them ordered a grande decaf Diet Coke.

Trying to be more diligent about getting a little daily vitamin D as we head toward winter. Knitting outside with the roses is not a bad way to do it.

Overheard in my house recently: "Hold on, my favorite rose is blooming! I have to go stick my face in it!"

I went birdwatching the other day with my kid's Girl Scout troop. We saw an ibis and a kingfisher and lots of coots. The golden hour sunshine and ocean breeze felt glorious.

Sock knitters! Talk to me about your favorite cuffs. How do you balance stretchiness with visual interest? How much of a priority do you place on neatness? Would you go for a less elastic cuff that was more fun to make or matched the rest of the sock better?

My kid started taking piano lessons recently, which turned into me sitting with her at the piano during practice time and helping her work on tricky measures, which turned into me pulling out old books and practicing on my own. Muscle memory is surprisingly quick to reactivate.

Now that I've rediscovered my garment knitting mojo, I've realized all my project bags are too small to hold a project of that size. So I got a bigger one, and I'm obsessed. This is by my friend Elena at Rows and Seams (she also made my favorite zippered bag).

Wandered into my coworking space today to find it completely empty and couldn't figure out why. Thought maybe everyone was just starting a gorgeous summer weekend a little early. And then I realized.

At the end of last year, their nest fell down, and we worried that would the end of it. We shouldn't have. They built a new one this year. This morning, as I lay in bed listening to their chatter, I smiled and thought about their beautiful resilience. 2/2

In 2020, a pair of swallows built a nest under the western eave of our house. It was a wonderful sign of hope during such a bleak, scary time. They've come back every year since, and we've loved watching their babies grow and fly away. /1

#KnittingTwitter when you're looking for a new sock knitting pattern, how do you like to see the socks displayed? On sock blockers, worn on feet, on a mannequin, some other way? I have my suspicions but would love to hear your thoughts.

Exciting news! The Meddlesome Mama, the next sock pattern in the Golden Honey Sock Club, is coming in August. This year’s theme is historical romance archetypes. Will our summertime visitor be helpful or will she get under foot? #KnittingTwitter

And so I figured I’d write a blog post about it. Here are 11 things I wish I knew when I first started knitting. What would you add to the list? https://t.co/XIbrOpjYJy 2/2

I got to reminiscing recently about all of the lessons I’ve learned over the last 17 years of knitting. Some of them have been hard lessons learned the hard way. Others I learned ahead of time thanks to kind warnings from more experienced knitters. /1

The Creme Brulee Socks have had a significant update! They now have an expanded size range, new heel instructions, a new sample, fresh photos, and more. I love this sock pattern so much, and with today's rerelease, it's officially my best-selling pattern.
