Frosty overnight. Temp bottomed out at around 31 degrees according to the weather station. The emerged corn and soybeans will be fine, but they were covered in a layer of frost. #plant25 #Bayer4NE

Very nice 0.39” of rain overnight. It’s not a lot, but it helps. We were going to have to start irrigating the winter wheat trials this weekend without it. #Bayer4NE

It was a great day and a great group of students to visit with about Bayer technology and cropping systems. The history of corn and soybeans was a highlight, and most got to see cotton for the first time.

Soybean seed is showing about a 3/4 radicle on average after about 2 weeks in the soil.

Corn seed from March 18th has about a 3/8 to 1/2 inch radicle.

Soil temps showed a low of 27 degrees and a high of 65 over the last 13 days.

We put in planting date number 2 of a planned 8 in our planting date trial yesterday. Soil temp was 43 degrees. This should stress the corn and soybeans. Soil temps and seed progress from the March 18th planting are in the comments. #Plant25 #Bayer4NE

Can’t let the seed sit in the bag. #Plant25 is a go for corn and soybeans. The soil temp is 38 degrees and we’re expecting blizzard conditions by morning. We’ll see what emerges!

The cows are enjoying the morning before it gets too windy. We graze cattle on crop residues to recycle nutrients, clean up volunteer corn, and decrease residue levels making no-till management and strip-till mamangement easier in our environment.

Sun’s out so it’s a great day to run through the planters. #plant25 starts next week.

Landowners are using controlled burns in area pastures today. A challenge in this area is afforestation, or grasslands being taken over by Eastern red cedar. They’re the black trees on the hillsides in the video that can be killed by 🔥restoring pastures and grassland habitat.
