Keep in mind not a single mainline Resident Evil only has ONE playable character. Its always at least 2. Jill, Chris Rebecca, Rebecca & Billy, Claire & Leon, Jill & Carlos, Leon & Ashley etc etc etc. This is 100% just all marketing ;).

During Summer Games Fest RE9 had a very "social media" approach to the marketing. The bait and switch of teasing into a full blown reveal. First trending outrage into trending positivity. I think they're doing the same thing with Leon (or another classic character).

Its ironic that people will bring others down for not knowing Alyssa from Outbreak, going as far as saying not to bother playing the new game if you don't know the old lore. If you're actually a true fan of something then you want it to flourish and get new fans with any means.

I've witnessed SO much gatekeeping on Resident Evil in the past few days. If you're hating on people for not knowing a deep cut from a random offshoot Resident Evil game that's 100% stuck on the PS2 then you're unfortunately mentally ridiculous & need some serious help.
