The bridge at Son, blown up by Germans as US paratroopers of 506th PIR approached on 17 Sept 1944 on the opening day of Market Garden. Early evening of the 18th, British 30 Corps started constructing a bailey bridge at this site, which was finished around 6am the next morning.

A wonderful tour with a family from US today, walking in the footsteps of their relative: Pfc William Wilson, 121st Infantry Regiment, 8th Infantry Division. William was first wounded in Nov 1944 while fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. After recovering he rejoined his unit. William

Today’s clients from US booked a tour on the liberation of Nuenen. When meeting them they explained they are huge Band of Brother fans, so we decided to do an ‘Easy during Market Garden’ tour instead, following E/506 from the dropzone till their final action near Koevering on 25

Today’s battlefield tour was all about the battles fought around Veghel. This included a visit to Erp where an original C-47 propeller is kept as a memorial to the crew of “Sonya” which crashed on the first day of Operation Market Garden.

Today we followed the footsteps of Kampfgruppe Peiper in the Battle of the Bulge. We began in Germany and explored the Northern Shoulder, then continued all the way to La Gleize and the Tiger II. A very good day on the battlefields!

My last tour of the year. The Cloth Hall & Ypres. The main focus today is WW1 but before the war its focus lay in export of linen & lace. The FWW changed all that. Today its significance is that it remained a last bastion of hope to a country otherwise occupied by German troops

Hackett’s Hollow is named after Brigadier 'Shan' Hackett, commander of 4th Parachute Infantry Brigade. It was at this spot that he and some 150 men from the 156th Para Battalion were pinned down for more than eight hours on 20 Sept 1944 during their withdrawal to the Oosterbeek

“In honour of the dead, in warming to the living” One simple sentence that conveys the history and lessons of Dachau concentration camp. A sentence to contemplate upon while visiting this place, like we did today on @WWIImuseum Easy Company Tour.

A beautiful and moving thread on how a British historian and guide became connected to a British soldier buried in The Netherlands and now is the custodian of his grave. Well worth a read. 👇
A thread 🧵 Last year Edwin Popken was involved as the historian in unveiling the new memorial at Best in the Netherlands. His job was to ensure that all the allied soldiers killed within the town’s boundaries were commemorated. 1/
