THIS is a VERY interesting read👇.
The psychoanalysis of Sinners is that there's twins inside Coogler and both want to entertain his community. But, after success and pleasing his ancestors, he fears that vampires have now come to exploit him. The problem is that his community are entertained by the vampires.

Signal boosting because Alice Tully's converging lines make for perfect Academy Ratio viewing and, given the way RaMell & DP Jomo Fray lean WAY into the formalism of NICKEL BOYS being every bit as invigorating as the history they're dismantling, this is THEE screening to see it.

NICKEL BOYS is stunning. Like. STUNNING. Seeing it twice this week, so THAT stunning. A leap forward in adaptations of literary interiority. Rated PG13. A sign of the GREAT care RaMell took with this material🙌🏿. NICKEL BOYS |OfficialTrailer via @YouTube.

My my my cannot wait to see this!!! Between this, ON BECOMING A GUINEA FOWL, PIANO LESSON, BLKNWS: TERMS & CONDITIONS (Kahlil's magnum opus, a deeply emphatic film) and JIMMY, the next six months is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.
RaMell Ross' Nickel Boys is a staggering achievement. as radical, visionary & moving as any commercial American film this decade (low bar, but still), as well as a towering reminder of the heights that literary adaptations should aspire towards. my review:

I've seen this film. Malcolm gave himself fully to this, takes the stage play to another realm. It is not a play on film. It is August Wilson posited on an astral plane. As he should. Believe what you see here. Because it's been weeks and I have not been able to shake this film.
Samuel L. Jackson, John David Washington, and Danielle Deadwyler star in The Piano Lesson, based on the Pulitzer Prize winning play by August Wilson. From director Malcolm Washington. In select theaters this November and on Netflix November 22.

In which I sit down with journalist Edward Mendez for his first interview ever and… the resulting conversation, which happened over a month ago so reads very fresh to me, has the spark of a genuine and open bit of communion 💆🏿♂️.
