Had a pleasant call with a player yesterday seeking a club. Both put cards on table, he levelled that he’s had another manager chasing him for a while. Calls me tonight saying ‘thanks for being straight’ and that he’s going to try the club closer to home. Simple mutual respect.👍🏼

Increased free time ahead of a likely reduced pre season requires players to take ownership now and turn up in good physical nick. Anything else sends a clear message. What time coaches do have can then be utilised on game prep and aligning understanding of the vitals. ⚽️👌🏼

BTW 4 games in now & another great referee who was a pleasure to meet and liaise with before, during and after the game. Like us managers, coaches and players they sometimes get it wrong but like us, certainly don’t set out to. Hope it’s a season long trend. 🫡

Just reflecting and feeling a mixture of pride, satisfaction and excitement from the recent involvement of several of the new u18’s side. GK Jack who’s played back to back 90’s now, as well as winger Tyler and striker Sam are all just 16 and more than held their own. Love it.⚽️👌🏽

Lungs been bad since testing positive back in Oct, getting out of breath easily. Apparently it scars the insides of your lungs hence the constant burning. Posting this to give others confidence the effects do ease. Shit pace but couldn’t have ground this out a month ago. 🏃😷

100% agree with this. Leagues need to wake up and stop the piss taking. If your £100 a game striker isn’t available go get 3 more committed lads on £30 and field a side FFS. Umpteen times we’ve been short and never not raised a side. Give the 21’s and 18’s a crack! 🤷🏼♂️

You don’t stop because you get old, you get old because you stop! Just a personal pride thing, was tough at times mentally and physically but I miss the grind of pre season and how you feel after you know you’ve grafted. 3 x 6km’s a week for 5 weeks with 30 secs cut from time.☑️

Pre season is a fascinating time and rare opportunity to learn what your squad are about individually and how / if they gel collectively. The ego has to be taken out the equation however as you only reinforce what you already know if the fear of losing a friendly picks your team.

Genuine question - why were grass roots clubs tasked with spending hundreds and in some cases thousands getting Covid compliant and safe? These steps have made the match environment for 100-300 people safer than supermarkets yet they are being strangled to death anyway. 🤷🏼♂️

Would just like to add how good I thought yesterday’s team of officials were. Didn’t personally agree with every decision but that irrelevant. Comms from ref to assistants and all three to dugouts and players was superb and enabled facilitated a mutual understanding of events. 👏🏼
