In case it's not clear, I'm just not using X that much these days. You can find me at @barronauthor.bsky.social. I can't say I'm 100% off, but I won't be posting much on here.

Just watched SINNERS. Best movie I've seen in 2025. They need to make more movies like this. Also, it's a masterclass in introducing characters quickly and the viewers knowing everything they need to know about them. #SinnersMovie .

Started HOME IS WHERE THE BODIES ARE by @jenevarosebooks. Fantastic opening. Great example of how to readers are pulled into stories because of characters. Can't wait to see where this goes. #writingcommunity #horrorwriting.

Spoke with my editor. She was SUPER encouraging. Gave me some feedback (nothing compared to what she's given me in the past). Overall she says my novel is ready to go! I'll tidy things up over the next week but will send out query letters mid-April!.#amwriting #writingcommunity.

BONUS: This comic has a lot of great examples of intense conversations between two characters who are just sitting in a vehicle driving. Study this go pick up how to do this effectively in your own comics.

4 Jagged panels/intense background coloring in a disturbing scene. The next page has large panels, lots of emptiness. Juxtaposition is very effective. 5 The space between the panel and the edge of the page gets larger when one of the characters is in distress.

3 In a flashback regarding the main character’s childhood, have tight panels, only see parents from the waist down. This is all from the kid’s POV (similar to ET). Also note: The main character’s neglectful dad looks just like him.

1 A great way to introduce your character is to have them interact with someone other people might ignore. 2 Introduce a character who will be vital later on in the story as someone the readers will at first dismiss as just a background character.

I've started going through some of my favorite comics page by page, panel by panel. Sort of a master’s class in graphic novel storytelling. Here is what I’ve learned from PHANTOM ROAD vol 1 by JEFF LEMIRE. #comics #WritingCommunity #writingcomics #amwriting

4) It's very creepy when you see someone standing half in a doorway (especially if that person is typically very friendly). 5) In flashbacks/hallucinations have the gutters a little wider. Subtle way of showing things are off.
