New research by the Toronto Metropolitan University indicates public perception towards reconciliation is changing. On tonight’s N2N, Professor Iloradanon Efimoff says non-Indigenous Peoples are becoming more aware of the harm government policies have on Indigenous Peoples.

Another #infographic detailing progress toward #reconciliation in #Canada: increased awareness and acknowledgement of harm, but little progress in many other areas like personal equality. Thanks again to @rymoran and team for putting it together!

Interview w @AleahFontaine re: 2022 report: "Now 90% of non-Indigenous peoples and 94% of Indigenous peoples have heard or read about residential schools... we are certainly seeing that awareness increase." https://t.co/duN6ONhMZH @globalnews @680CJOB #reconciliation #barometer

"While there are many reasons to remain optimistic about the findings within the report, it’s important to track the different areas we are progressing or stalling in," noted @AleahFontaine (doctoral candidate, lead analyst). https://t.co/1IV36CgaVN @APTNNews #reconciliation

Research suggests public awareness of past harms from residential schools has increased but more work needs to be done educating Canadians on lasting impacts of the institutions.

New polling from @BarometerLab says settlers are making some progress learning the truth about Residential Schools. But there's much more to learn. You can help the folks at the NCTR shape future national education programs by taking their survey here:

If understanding the truth about Residential Schools and the structures of colonialism is the first step to action, there's some hope in this data - particularly the fact that more than three-quarters of us settlers know at least something about the TRC and MMIWG calls to action.

8/ Together, these findings highlight that people’s awareness has increased, but more learning is needed. As we’ll share in our upcoming 2022 Report, most people don’t know very much about these topics.

7/ Most people in Canada have at least some awareness of each of these important topics, but there’s a long way to go until everyone does—especially UNDRIP. Just like with awareness of Residential Schools, Indigenous people know more about these topics than non-Indigenous people.
