Episode 28 of the ongoing KÄ«lauea summit eruption is over after 9 hours of continuous lava fountaining. The south vent did not appear to activate at all during this episode and has been completely covered by new deposits. Lava fountains reached approximately 1200 ft (365 m).

This is being reported as ball lightning, but it looks like an arcing transformer to me. The witnesses claimed it was some distance above ground and started right after a lightning strike. Zoomed in video shows it's the right colour, and terminates in a shower of sparks.
As Morgan mentioned on the news this morning, here's what weather scientists are calling "ball lightning" A very rare pheonemenon that happen near Rich Valley (North of the city)
