It's the 150th anniversary of the Settle-Carlisle railway, which opened for passengers in 1876. The final stone of the Ribblehead Viaduct, which was designed by John Sydney Crossley of the Midland Railway, had been laid by the end of 1874. #TuesdayThoughts #YorkshireDales

Greenwich station is one of the world's oldest and longest-operating passenger railway stations. It originally served as the terminus of the London to Greenwich Railway, which opened in 1838, with the other end of the line at London Bridge. The current building dates from 1840.

There are lots of people on this site who make money from trying to convince you that London is terrible and everything is getting worse. They're lying.

The numbers speak for themselves. Last year, London had the lowest murder rate per capita since records began. But one death is still one too many, that’s why I’ll keep investing in policing and creating opportunities for young Londoners to make our city even safer.

The unique mid-16th century manor house at Crow’s Hall, Stowmarket, is surrounded by a moat and entered by a brick bridge and a gatehouse. 😍 Unlike many other country estates, it hasn't been formally designed and is an unusual survival of a small, early country house landscape.

In 1916, the United States traded any interest it had in Greenland to Denmark as part of its compensation for the Danish West Indies, which are now the U.S. Virgin Islands. Heard about that from media or politicians? Teaching history is important https://t.co/LqEEAVQuMX
