It’s nearly impossible to overstate Henry Aaron’s greatness on and off the baseball field. His 715th home run—hit 50 years ago today—shattered an iconic mark while he endured racist threats in the segregated Jim Crow South. @SABRbioproject: https://t.co/C8HAYAZZwK #SABR

Still remember watching Hank Aaron break Ruth's record on TV with my Mom. I'd already read "Hammerin' Hank," which I'd found in a bin at school. A legit 176 pages, first "real" book I ever read. Also remember some people didn't want Hank to break the record, but not in our house.

David Wells paid a $2500 fine for wearing Babe Ruth’s game worn Yankee baseball cap. He bought the cap for $35K. Asked to wear it in a game, was told “No” and did it anyway. Wells paid the fine in singles, then sold the hat 13 years later at auction for $535K.

With Shohei Ohtani we are experiencing the kind of worldwide appeal and excitement that people in the 1920s had for Babe Ruth. Baseball is so awesome!
