I am 36 years old, and have seen enough data to believe that I am getting worse at wrapping presents as I get older.

I'm not sure it's worth talking seriously about the proposed battleship class until there is demonstrated intent and capability to actually build them. Until then, just let Popular Mechanics slap it on a cover.

This is a glazed yeast donut from Yvonne's Donuts & Deli in Palm Bay, Florida. It has a great, fluffy crumb and a big punch of vanilla. This is a donut that really knows what it wants from life.

Just terrible. Christina and I weren't especially close, but she was always one of the kindest folks in the media room in Tuscaloosa. Awful to hear that she is gone so young.

Turns out that a college football playoff with 12 spots leaves even more teams feeling snubbed than a playoff with 4 teams. Who would have thought?

It’s almost like all the other ranking shows are designed specifically to fill a TV content block and sell ads and are immaterial and the only one that matters is the final one. Wait, it’s exactly like that. “The answer to all your questions is money.”

Should have included Billy Napier's recent hiring at James Madison here as well.

Alex Mortensen and Tosh Lupoi being named head coaches makes 10 assistants and staffers from Alabama's 2015 national championship team who have since become head coaches. The list (unless I missed one or another one gets hired today):

A few omissions due to time/space constraints (no particular order): JJ Weaver, DeAndre Square, Garrett Johnson, Stephen Johnson, Boom Williams, Boogie Watson, Drake Jackson, and many, many others. Lots of really good players came through Kentucky from 2013-25.

This is probably Stoops' biggest success. Didn't just make Kentucky competitive, but did it with physicality and good defense. Conventional wisdom was that UK would need to go against the grain to compete. He built teams that went straight at opponents. https://t.co/B1h4qihpZr
Jonathan Allen: "That's probably one of the most physical games I've played since I was in college. I have to give Kentucky a lot of credit"

My official review of The Nutcracker: The tooth to tail ratio of the tin soldier army is completely inadequate. Too many drummers and trumpeters. Not enough artillery and infantry. No wonder an army of disorganized mice posed such a threat to them.

The program to build affordable, reliable small warships at scale quickly will produce 2 unproven ships at enormous cost, with no replacement in sight. The Navy is basically back to square one, having spent $2,000,000,000 and 10 years to get here.

Shortly after, the first ship (4 years after contract) was reported to be 3 years behind schedule. On top of design changes, the shipyard couldn't keep enough workers to keep it on schedule. About 18 months after that, the program is canceled. Will spend $2b to produce 2 ships.

The first ship was supposed to be delivered within 5 years, roughly April 2025. Then the Navy started modifying the design. Initially it was supposed to have 85% commonality with the French/Italian design; in 2024 it was reported to have 15% commonality.
