I created a short course on what I think hockey sense is and a few ways to develop it during practice. Here's a brief clip showcasing some of the concepts covered: https://t.co/1MVEHaKEn4

Florida Panthers captain Sasha Barkov revealed a pivotal piece of advice he received from Jaromir Jagr early in his career. This became a key element of Sasha's own training philosophy - one that has consistently guided his approach to the game #TimeToHunt

Does working on technique make you a bad coach? Of course not! But getting stuck on “perfect technique” while ignoring performance outcomes… that’s where the trouble starts. Skill is about solving problems, not just moving pretty. #coaching #skillacquisition

Here is another example👇of a leading coach using an EcoD/CLA approach to practice design. 2v1's and 3v2's that are slices of the game. @BSlugocki mixes it up by using different ways to initiate each activity with different location starts, off passes or rims. Let's go!💪

Wanted to share the progression of our practice tonight to hopefully give you some different ideas to try in your practices. Below is the full video I made which is a few reps of nearly every. In this long thread, I’ll break down each one in detail.

Some simple drills you can use if: - you want to help players transfer offensive skills from practice to game - you're too poor to afford all those $$$ apparatuses - your players lose interest when you spend time drawing up drills at the board

I believe the best way to develop adaptive and skillful players is to focus on 1-3 main intentions/principles and then attack it from multiple different ways. And if you can make it fun while varying the challenges, you’re on your way to designing great practices.

That’s essentially everything we did in the 55 minutes we skated. Besides the initial warmup, everything we did included at least one defender and one teammate. We varied the pressure, spacing, rules, and time throughout, but the main intention was always the same.

We kept score and played for 8 minutes. The intentions were still the same but now it challenged them in a different but still similar way.

Next was a 2v2 +1 game, where on a change of possession, the puck had to be moved above a high line. Here the high player can either move it back immediately or exchange with one of their teammates. There always had to be someone high.

Occasional feedback and teaching was done here if there was repeated, similar mistakes from the players but in general I stayed back and watched. When players sought feedback, it was given.
