Dr. Mia Ridge, the British Library’s Digital Curator for Western Heritage Collections was invited to give a talk on AI and digital scholarship at the @britishlibrary. The event was attended by over 200 participants and was live streamed.

The BSA mourns the passing of Colin Renfrew, thought by many to be the world’s greatest living archaeologist, at the age of 87. Professor Colin Renfew, Lord Renfrew of Kaimsthorn, was a Vice-President of the BSA and former Chairman of Council. Obituary:

The 1936 exhibition, originally curated by Sir Arthur Evans and distinguished archaeologists of the BSA—including Sir John Myres, Alan Wace, W.A. Heurtley, and Winifred Lamb-took place at Burlington House, London.

Run by Dr Andrew Shapland (Ashmolean Museum), Amalia Kakissis (BSA), Renée Trepagnier (University of Bristol & Ashmolean Museum) & Charlotte Townsend (BSA & University of Liverpool), the project aims to digitise & showcase materials from the 50th anniversary exhibition of the BSA.

The BSA is thrilled to announce the collaborative project: “Reconstructing the 1936 BSA Exhibition using the Ashmolean’s Sir Arthur Evans Archive”! Thanks to generous funding from The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH), we can now reimagine this historic exhibition!

The project aims to transform the Museum into a modern research centre to serve the needs of the academic community as they have evolved in the 21st century and to provide a meeting place between the academic community and the general public.
