UPDATE as of 3:48pm - The Severe Thunderstorm Warning for the Raukumara Range has been lifted, but the Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in place until 7pm tonight.

This has also been followed up with a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for easter parts of Bay of Plenty, some of which may become severe East of Opotiki, producing downpours of 25 to 40 mm per hour.

Heads up Opotiki pals, MetService New Zealand have just issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, after their weather radar detected severe thunderstorms near the Raukumara Range.

Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are expected in inland parts of Bay of Plenty (from Rotorua eastwards) from 1pm - 9pm today, Wednesday 7 Jan. Keep an eye on @MetService for the latest updates and information, and stay safe.

The @MetService have issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire Bay of Plenty from 11am - 11pm, Saturday 3rd January. From late morning until tonight, some of these thunderstorms may become SEVERE bringing localised downpours with intensities of 25 to 40 mm per hour.

There is another Severe Thunderstorm Warning in place for Western Bay of Plenty, valid until 6.30pm tonight. The thunderstorms are moving towards the SouthEast, near Waihi, Waihi Beach, Katikati and the Kaimai ranges. The warning is in place until 06:30pm.

There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Western Bay of Plenty and Rotorua, after @MetService's weather radar has picked up severe thunderstorms near the Kaimai Ranges. Please keep an eye on MetService for the latest info as to where these thunderstorms are tracking.

Further to this Heavy Rain Warning, @MetService has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a large area of the central North Island, including west of Rotorua city which is valid until 20:00 tonight.

⚠️ @MetService have issued a Heavy Rain Warning for the entire Bay of Plenty including Rotorua. The warning is in place from 2am until midnight Wed, 3 December. We can expect 80 to 120 mm of rain, with thunderstorms and downpours possible.

The MetService forecast includes heavy rain for our region and have issued a Heavy Raining Warning which is in place from 4pm today to 9am tomorrow
