Dear Friends and Supporters, This July marks the 30th anniversary of the Bosnian Genocide. To honour the memory of those who were killed, and in solidarity with survivors, I will be undertaking a physical and symbolic journey of remembrance. https://t.co/UBnVEsFy0e

Today, we had the exceptional honor of hosting Christian Schwarz-Schilling, a man whose vision and determination were among the cornerstones of the creation of our institution. We experienced today’s visit not only as an act of respect but also as a reminder of what he did to

A poignant 80th anniversary commemoration of The Windermere Children's arrival in the Lake District, inc. opening of a memorial garden at The Lakes School, inspired by @TCS_Humanities' award winning design. A fitting & moving #HtFMeUs collaboration, on a very special day

Today at the Srebrenica Memorial, the first SrebrenicaKids summer programme for children aged 7 to 14 has begun. It focuses on exploring emotions, memories, communication, and Srebrenica from a child’s perspective. Taking part are children from Srebrenica, Bratunac, and Sarajevo.

🚨✍️ In August 1992, the International Red Cross visited Batković concentration camp in Bosnia's northeastern Bijeljina municipality. The Serb camp guards hid the most beaten Bosniak and Croat prisoners from aid workers. Today, the Republika Srpska (entity of BiH) authorities

We came here with nothing but hope. 30 years on, we’re proud to call Newcastle our home. We’re proof that compassion changes everything.
In summer ’93, my dad & all the men in my family were taken to concentration camps. My mam, siblings & I were rounded up & sent to a “collection centre,” where she was forced to sign over everything we owned to the local council “for safekeeping.”

I’ve had the privilege of seeing Nic and Charlotte in action, and I cannot recommend this project highly enough. Truly outstanding.

Thank you to all who stood with us then, and now. This tree is for every story shared, every hand extended, and every lesson passed on.

In July, we planted a cherry tree outside Newcastle Civic Centre to mark 30 years since the genocide in Bosnia, and to honour the welcome our community received here. What began with loss and displacement has grown into something rooted in memory, truth, and solidarity.
This cherry tree is a tribute to their strength. It reflects how far we’ve come: from refugees to founders of the @BGET_UK, which has grown into a true community project, built on shared memory, mutual support, and a commitment to educating future generations.

We are incredibly proud of our trustee Andy Lie, who completed an extraordinary 100-mile run in just 48 hours — with barely 20 minutes of sleep. Every step was dedicated to the memory of those killed in Srebrenica, and to raising funds for our new 2026 Educational Trip Fund.
100 miles of walking and running in just 48 hours, from Bamburgh Castle to Edinburgh Castle. Andy slept for barely 20 minutes in total, grabbing only two 10-minute naps along the way.
