Need a quick hitter vs. a zone defense? This may be your new favorite play. The top pin player becomes the counter as the can slip into the gap if their defender fights through.
Backdoor play vs. a zone...anyone run one before? Great concept on display here that could be run to create an advantage at the rim or on the perimeter.
New Belmont coach Casey Alexander ran some great stuff at Lipscomb. Here is a late clock play that slips the 1st screener out off a double stagger dribble handoff.
A common offensive principle of attack suggest that "the defense can't stop two things in a row." Here is an example of that principle being applied where a defender has to defend one action followed immediately by a second action.
Brad Stevens has used this before...concept to seal at the rim on a sideline inbound play for a direct pass to an isolated 1-on-1 matchup. Even better if the defense switches or you know they switch on SOB. Check out another Brad Stevens SOB here
Offense is spacing. This sideline inbound play creates space for
1. Backdoor
2. Curl
3. Stagger

This 1-4 low baseline inbound play is deceptive because all the action appears to be ball side until the back screen. Check out more 1-4 low baseline inbound plays that work here
Everyone loves "Cyclone" plays but sometimes the build up is too complicated for some levels...this solves that problem as you can run this easily out of a Diamond Set.
Still one of my favorite plays of the NBA season.
Short roll to set up a hammer screen from Minnesota.

I stoled this one from the San Antonio Spurs. Our player missed the layup but you can see how effective it can be a "special" baseline inbound. It is also safe because the ball is already inbound.
Kent State men's basketball coach
@CoachSendy
ran this beautiful zone inbound action. Inside out actions can distort zone defenses, and create space for interior cuts.
Here is a chin action that leads to a deep seal or shoot/drive advantage off a "ricky" screen (screen and rescreen by the same screener for the same cutter) for Loyola Chicago.
Great zone concept from Boise State. Love the idea of overloading the zone on initial entry and on a swing. Also intrigued by the 2nd clip that loops a player to the ball side short corner. Wondering if there is some synergy to adding it to Zone Cycles?
One of my favorite sideline inbound actions I adapted from a team that ran this a few years ago. Great to see it again as the forced curl and follow usually creates an advantage on the corner catch.

Really like this zone set play.
Overload ball screen vs. a zone defense that features a snap back to a potential 2-on-1 advantage.
Need a late clock baseline inbound play that works? Great set up on this play as the cutter & screener walk to run before the main action for a backdoor opportunity. Edit made easy with
@KlipDraw
...seriously don't know why you wouldn't get it!
Crazy good zone inbound play to run this vs. zone inbound defenses to create gaps to cut into via Barcelona. Check out more baseline inbound plays here
Timing is important to offensive play execution. Watch the pause and reaction of all 5 players on the dribble attack baseline. Every player is in synch. This helps the play execution and leads to an open cutter off the weaks side hammer screen.

Effective baseline inbound that creates space for backdoor cut or for the inbound passer to get the ball back into a double ball screen.
Need to better understand how to attack and beat a 1-3-1 zone defense? I studied 1-3-1 basketball zone offenses from around the world, and came up with this compilation of actions that can help your team create an advantage.
This seems too easy, but I get why it works. The curl layup pass is made after the ball is passed inbound with perfect timing. Consider adding this sideline inbound play that worked to your playbook. I will.
Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman ran this great action off of America's Play this season as he helped his new team to 20 wins. Check out some of the ideas that lead to his success on EP65 of

Effective sideline out of bounds play run by Hamilton College as a pressure release. This is run by half-court but could be run closer or farther as an all in one special for pressure release or entry.
This play has everything I love about attacking a zone.
1. An initial movement
2. Blind cut into the middle space
3. Cut and slide action on middle catch
Check out more effective play design from Columbia and head coach Megan Griffith here
Zone offense when you don't have a ton of shooting? Here is something I am seeing more of...a wing to top ball screen that creates space by progressively screening and moving the zone.. Shared this with a BIPlatinum member who has been running it to great success with his team.
Pistols is a common offensive action run at all levels of basketball. It is an effective youth offense IMO because it breaks offense into 3 and 2 player actions with an emphasis on spacing off the ball. Here is an example of what is possible when the initial action doesn't work.

Skip the high ball screen? Watching many college end game & late shot clock actions end in a high ball screen. Problem is it brings 2 defenders to the ball & takes away space. Try Horns Clear instead? I have for years. Watch a full edit of Horns Clear here
I posted about Pistols last week and a number of coaches mentioned the weak side hammer action. Here is a counter when the hammer cut is denied by a defensive switch.

runs screen away baseline inbound that could lead to a layup...but love the ending she added as the 2ndary action flows into a high low. Check out Coach Butler on

Really this action as it masks a 5-Out Ball Screen using a pass and cut to the ball side corner fill. In this example the defender gambles, but even if they stay with the cutter, the would be confused about whether to stop in help to tag the roll or to recover to their check.
Have you ever used this concept? Lipscomb head coach
@coachacuff
used a football concept to get the ball inbound vs. pressure. Interested in more ideas to inbound vs. pressure? Here are multiple possibilities in this compilation
My favorite baseline inbound play of the playoffs is from the Utah Jazz. Because most inbound plays are run to the ball side or weak side, the top is often a safety pass. In this example the main action is run to the top for a shot.

ran this 1-4 high action vs. a zone that forces the zone to matchup player-to-player allowing for a 1-on-1 post high low isolation.
I used this set at a recent clinic to demonstrate how I could teach a new play 5-on-5, while skipping the 5-on-0. And as a method of hiding players on offense, since most teams have players they need to keep away from the main action.

If you run ball screen actions already, using a ghost screen to create a drive to score gap is an easy addition. Here is an example of such an action. Check out more ghost screen plays here

Where are all my European ball screen coaches? Check out this action from Quin Snyder and the Utah Jazz that breaks off the cut to come back to set a back screen for the top.

Oklahoma State and head coach Mike Boynton team runs the Fred Hoiberg/Golden State Warrior's "cyclone" concept to take advantage of Florida State's switching defense.
Anyone that runs "floppy" action, if you haven't added a top flare like this action from Lebanon National team, I strongly suggest it. Super ATO or special to compliment your floppy actions.
Love this play that works from FC Porto head coach Moncho Lopez. If the primary actions isn't open the play presents numerous possibilities as there is a whole lotta action.

Akron and head coach John Groce demonstrate modern spacing as a Horns Screen and Rescreen action creates advantages in part because of the 2 side, and 1 side spacing.
