Whisman failed to yield to traffic, ultimately causing the vehicle to strike Whisman and his e-bike. Whisman was transported to Delray Medical Center; he was pronounced dead on July 6. The investigation is ongoing.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the bicycle was an e-bike, driven by Whisman, and was traveling eastbound across Congress Avenue on the south side of the intersection while a vehicle was traveling northbound on Congress Avenue with a green traffic light.

#UPDATE: July 5 Traffic Crash - BBPD responded to a vehicle versus bicycle traffic crash around 4 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the intersection of North Congress Avenue and Old Boynton Road, that resulted in the death of 61-year-old Dale Whisman.

UPDATE #2: On June 17, 2025, the organizer of “Peace in the Hood” submitted a Special Events Application to the City of Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Dept to host an event titled "Stop Violence Awareness" for approximately 20 attendees at Sara Sims Park on July 5, 2025.

BBPD Officers determined that the shooting occurred during an unsanctioned event advertised as “Peace in the Hood” with nearly 500 attendees. The initial investigation shows that at approx 8:04 p.m. multiple rival gang members began shooting at each other (cont.).

Shortly after, BBPD dispatch received reports that two additional female victims were self-transported to local hospitals. One victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg and the other suffered from a gunshot wound to the hip.

#UPDATE: BBPD responded to multiple reports of shots fired into a crowd shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, July 5 at Sara Sims Park. Upon arrival, BBPD Officers found one female victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the femur.
