A noteworthy tweet from #SriLanka’s former president, especially in how it articulates more bluntly than most the belief - widely-held in SL - that the deadly 2019 #eastersundayattacks were planned & facilitated for the political benefit of “a few powerful Sinhala politicians”.
@Justice4Hejaaz This pogrom against the Muslim people is a repitition of attacks against them in 2013/ the Easter bombings clearly organised by a few powerful Sinhala politicians / the Hejaaz Hisblluh case / the Dr.Shafi hoo-hah and many other events to demonise the Muslim people .

President Cyril Ramaphosa has finally warned Vladimir Putin not to come to South Africa in person for the BRICS summit, because he’d be arrested and sent to the International Criminal Court. Putin will have to appear via Zoom instead. Distinctly humiliating.

Having raised two boys with Frances, I remember that feeling. They do wander off for a few years but, I promise you, they come back more loving and rewarding than ever.
My son Rafe packing for a Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition, camping in the Welsh mountains. I’m hugely proud, of course, but a bit melancholy too: it’s his first big step to becoming independent of his parents….

I was on my phone and reading about Bryony Gordon’s interview with Prince Harry. My six year old boy looked at the photograph and said ‘is that you and mummy?’ It made me wonder just how little attention he gives to me or my wife.

Such sad news. Like millions of others her voice was part of my life’s soundtrack. Is there a more moving love song than “Songbird”?

You’ve picked on one of the most heartfelt passages I wrote in the novel.
"How many times, in how many different countries and in how many different languages had those words, 'send them back', been used? And how many people around the world had heard them and been terrified by what they meant? Those three words robbed them of their identities as 1/

I’m in the chemo clinic watching Rishi Sunak become the first person of colour to be PM. For a 1st generation migrant like me, born in Sri Lanka, it is a moment of great pride to live in a European country where this is possible. Racism is not over, but we’re on the right path.

Now that we have seen the detail of this evaluation, with all the gaps and unanswered questions, the case for more and better evaluation of the NTP that I made last week in @SchoolsWeek is even stronger ( https://t.co/DsNTb7pmt2)

With weeks to go until the evaluation of year one is published, Adam Alagiah-Glomseth says young people are missing out on needed improvements

So the long-awaited eval of NTP Y1 by @TheNFER finds that broadly tutoring is associated with better grades (with an avalanche of methodological caveats), but that the scheme failed to target disadvantaged pupils adequately

The independent study of the £350 million first year of the NTP has been published today – nearly two years since its launch in schools

Thank you for so much support. Sooner or later my cancer was going to find a way through the drugs. That it’s taken eight years is tribute to brilliant medics - and some luck. Now they’re re-jigging the treatment and remain hopeful. So am I.

The Commonwealth was very close to the Queen’s heart and you can see why in this film. What struck me was how successfully she navigated her way in a male dominated world of diplomacy & politics.
