Beth Goodyear of FMHSConsulting gave a thought-provoking presentation at the Young Movers York Conference entitled 'From Reactive to Proactive'. Beth stressed that planning was the key to success in all things; equally relevant to our personal lives as well as work.

The final speaker at the BAR Young Movers York Conference was Stefanie Sword-Williams, who spoke passionately about her mission to inspire individuals to be unapologetically proud of their achievements, or in other words and to quite the title of her book - F*ck Being Humble!

Rather than talking about Pickfords, of which he is the MD, Mark Taylor instead spoke about the Removers Benevolent Association (RBA). He asked delegates to ensure all staff were aware of the charity and to find ways to support it whether through fundraising or donations.

BAR President Sarah Cole talked about her background, her early career in law and what she wants to achieve as President. Sarah asked those present to consider the Apprenticeships, noting that by the end of 2026 the Operative Apprenticeship needed 100 signups to remain viable.

The BAR Director General Andrew Large explained that one of his and the BAR Board's key aims is to understand and define the value of BAR Membership." I want there to be no doubt as to what the value is. will only know what the industry wants and needs if you tell me."

The YM Chair Alexandra Foulger-Lane welcomed the delegates to and thanked all the sponsors, then announced that applications for mentees to match with mentors are now being accepted. Amy King, Basil Fry's MD then ran an interactive insurance quiz with Abi Pogson the winner.
