After attending B2R Farms’ Conservation Agriculture training in September 2023, one agronomist returned home & put it to the test. The results spoke for themselves. Watch his inspiring testimony to see how sustainable farming is taking root in Rwanda.

In 2025 Season A, Rwanda’s total food production reached approximately 6.16 million metric tons, up from 5.95 million metric tons in 2024 Season A—a 3.6% increase. This growth was driven by higher yields in key crops such as maize, beans, & Irish potatoes.

For the sixth year in a row, acute food insecurity has worsened (Global Report on Food Crises 2025). Africa needs a paradigm shift: agriculture should not be just about survival, but a driver of economic transformation. It’s time to rethink farming for sustainable food security.

After years of poor harvests, Simeon had nearly given up, but after attending B2R Farms' training on Conservation Agriculture, everything changed. With a single plot, he harvested 600kg from just 1/16th of a hectare—and never looked back. #conservationagriculture

The uptake of hybrid maize seeds among farmers is set to increase considerably by 2030, with RAB releasing more high-performing and climate-resilient varieties to boost maize production, according to an expert.

Rwanda loses 27 million tons of fertile soil every year—costing the country over 1 trillion RWF annually, according to a 2022 Water Resources Board study. But there’s hope. By embracing conservation agriculture, we can restore our land, and protect our future.

For four months, B2R Farms has hosted four South Sudanese Fellows, teaching them FFF methodologies and how to train others in their communities in South Sudan. Today, these Fellows have returned home and established three demonstration plots in Juba.

For every 1% increase in soil organic matter, soil can hold up to 48,000 liters more water per hectare. This enhanced water-holding capacity is a significant benefit of incorporating conservation agriculture practices.

Agriculture led Rwanda’s job market in Q1 2025, employing 43.7% of the workforce (excluding subsistence farming), according to NISR's latest Labour Force Survey. The services sector followed at 42%, with industry at 14.3%.
