The Africa Zero Hunger Initiative has been launched by the Nigerian Red Cross. The initiative will use the Mother’s Club model to deliver nutritional support to women at community level. About 25m people are currently facing severe hunger in Nigeria.

33 million Nigerians could face severe hunger in 2026. At the launch of @nrcs_ng’s Nutrition Advocacy Plan, SG Dr. Abubakar Kende called for urgent action. The SG said the task ahead is huge and needs wide support to solve it.

Ghana continues to battle the Mpox outbreak with rising cases across several regions. @ghanaredcross with support from @ifrc, is assisting @_GHSofficial through risk communication, community engagement, and hygiene promotion to help stop the spread.

I met with H.E. Saad Fahad Almarri, Charge d’ Affaires of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria, to discuss Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement’s legacy & explore future collaboration. We also discussed the IFRC malnutrition appeal (CHF 5M, with a CHF 3.3M gap) to support vulnerable communities.

In Lagos, @ifrc is hosting a Digital Warehouse Management Training from 1–4 Sept with Red Cross teams from Benin, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo. The training seeks to boosts capacity in warehouse management, safe handling & supply chain efficiency for better humanitarian response.

A meeting was held with Icelandic Amb. to Sierra Leone, Deputy Amb. & Dir of Intl development. We apprised Icelandic team about work of IFRC in addressing climate & environmental challenges. Icelandic RC through MoFA has been supporting Pan African Initiative for TPC in region.

Today held a meeting with MoFA in Guinea Bissau(RGB) & @ifrc signed the Legal Status Agreement with RGB . This is an important milestone for our humanitarian work in Guinea Bissau. This agreement provides more space, protection and flexibility to operate and support communities.
