There's a belief out there that attempts to promote diversity in hiring must be rooted in political ideology. In fact, there's a strong case that it's in the pure business interest of companies to increase hiring and promotion of black, Latino, and Indigenous candidates. 💸💸💸

If two candidates had roughly equal performance despite having different levels of opportunity... the candidate with historically less opportunity will probably be the better performer given an equal environment.

Let's say you're hiring an entry-level engineer and you have to choose between a white candidate and a black candidate with roughly equal past performance. On average, the black candidate will have been raised in a family with less income and therefore less opportunity.
