We’ve had a report of someone in a tall narrow building in Queensland feeling the Victorian earthquake. Energy waves at this distance would be very low frequency. Tall buildings can resonate at low frequencies and amplify ground motion, so this is definitely possible.

In most countries a magnitude 2.5 earthquake wouldn’t warrant attention, but in Australia earthquakes tend to be closer to the surface and energy waves travel further due to rock density. Also, we don’t feel earthquakes as often here, so they freak us out more when we do.

This magnitude 3.0 earthquake that occurred at 5:13am is about 20km to the northwest of the ongoing Woods Point aftershocks, so is likely to be on a different local fault that has been activated by the recent shaking.
