‘Right not rushed’ is our counting motto! 🌟. Counting will start at 6pm (local time) on election night – this includes votes cast early. It’ll be happening in voting centres across Aus & in our Central Counting Centres. More info: 👇

The distribution of preferences is expected to take the full week. It’s a complicated process occurring in front of candidate-appointed scrutineers. All info about this count is published but not progressively. We will communicate about the final margin when it is finalised. 👇.

Final participation numbers in the federal election aren’t available just yet. However, we know enrolment was a record 98.2% & turnout will be slightly higher than 2022, at a bit over 90%. We’ve published a webpage outlining key info -

In the House count, once the mandatory 2nd count is finished & the margin in a contest is greater than the potential numbers left to be received we’ll start formal result declarations. We should see the first of these occurring sometime next week.

We’re approaching the point where we’ve counted everything we have to hand in local count centres & we must wait for the return of postal votes. For close seats, ppl will have to be patient. Transport & roll checks take time - our motto 'right not rushed'

The Senate count is also progressing with 6.1m+ ballots completed their initial counts. Nearly 5m Senate ballots are at Central Senate Scrutiny sites across Aus & we’ll begin the process of capturing & validating the hundreds of millions of preferences. Video 👇

The nation already has clarity on who is forming government as well as most House & Senate seats around the nation. A lot was known on the night & our counting activities since have enables analysts to call further seat results.

What’s next?. There is a small number of remaining close seats such as Kooyong (Vic), Longman (QLD), Bean (ACT), Bradfield (NSW) & Bullwinkel (WA). We’re prioritising further counting activity where we can but it’s not a simple matter of putting on more people.

The 2025 federal election count is Aus' largest & most complex election count ever. We counted more ballots than ever on election night & we’ve also counted more votes at this point in the process than ever before. The progress:

Candidate appointed scrutineers are critical to the transparency of the count. Counting for a federal election is not just large scale (millions of votes counted 3+ times over) but also a thorough, methodical process watched every step of the way. 📸 QLD counts today

We’ve seen some chatter online about turnout. It’ s important to note that figures in our Tally Room are only based on votes counted so far and do not represent a final turnout figure for the 2025 federal election.

What’s next? Well today, we commence the ‘fresh scrutiny’ – a mandatory 2nd count. This doesn’t typically provide any additional results aside from some minor changes but it will provide some further clarity for seats that had their two-candidate-preferred (TCP) contests reset.
