Innovating research highlight: “Walking in policymakers’ shoes – Using role-play to foster better research/policy relations,” Lucile Maertens, Audrey Alejandro, Zoe Cheli, (2024). Consider this bold (but perhaps time and resource-intensive) approach to empathic policy
blogs.lse.ac.uk
Lucile Maertens, Audrey Alejandro & Zoé Cheli on how roleplay can be a useful tool in creating more productive interactions between research and policy.

Based on the history of methods & methodological debates in IR, I argue that the current promotion of methods in IR challenges the ‘critical vs non-critical’ divide & I argue that pro-methods critical scholarship is currently engaged in a process of de-technicisation of methods.

I develop three conceptualizations of technicization: 1. Technicization as depoliticization (Weberian) 2. Technicization as disciplinarization (Foucauldian) 3. Technicization as desociologization (Habermassian) It is my first paper that is really a #socialtheory /
