Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy was 23-years-old when he was jailed for organizing strikes against the British and his second visit to the prison was at the age of 57 when he took on Indira Gandhi.
I was 21 and knew nothing about his history when I asked him who he was.

* Social media post insults Goddess Cauvery.

* Police arrest Hindu man for creating a fake profile and for the post.
* Hindutva groups withdraw protest calls.
The moral of the story is?
A group of men shouting "Jai Sri Ram" entered a 550 + year of Madarasa in Bidar, threw kumkum and performed puja. Surprisingly (or not), most news channels are not reporting on this.
Two days ago, we asked Tejasvi Surya why and how the list of 16 Muslim employees was made. He said: “you should ask the officers who made it”.
So, our young colleague
@Suraj_Suresh16
asked the BBMP commissioner how this list was prepared, and he said he isn't aware of this list.
Am I the only one still wondering why that doctor, who left his car on the road and ran 3 kilometres to the hospital to perform a surgery, was taking a selfie video of himself if I was in such a hurry?
Let this sink in: Karnataka police used military grade assault rifle against unarmed civilians, and killed two of them.
Killed two of them.

To quote the Mangaluru police commissioner, Fazil - the Muslim youth from Surathkal - was murdered because a group of men (who didn't know each other before) came together because they wanted to "kill someone".

I was always fascinated by the way Irrfan Khan spoke. I could watch movies just to hear him speak. Roohdar from Haider was one of my favourite characters. And here is Rooh explaining himself. I've cut out just his voice and I'll be listening to this for a long time.
Stoppage of inter-state trains by Sri

is a bold and necessary move.
It will help migrant labourers who came here with hopes of a better life to restart their dreams. Also, it will kickstart economic activities full throttle.
Karnataka will emerge out of this stronger!
I'm going to follow our Prime Minister's path from now on in my life. If I mess up something, I'll keep quiet for six months and grow a beard. Six months later I'll say there is no data.
Let’s talk about Basavaraj Bommai’s term as CM. More than development works, his term was known for its communal policies. One can think of hijab, anti-conversion bill and a few others, but a closer look shows there have been over 12 communal policies or statements.
1. Thanks to Tejasvi Surya, all 16 are on suspension.
2. They won't be paid until the "investigation" is over.
3. Cops say there is no investigation.
4. Agency says cops have asked the 16 to be available for questioning, so they can't be employed.
The way Kannada channels use the word 'love jihad' is worrisome. Two adults getting married at a sub-registers office were dragged to the police station by Bajrang Dal workers. The couple filed an FIR against them. But for channels, it is love jihad and attackers are activists.
The father of 23-year-old Fazil, who was murdered in Mangaluru in a communal murder, has approached police seeking a case under UAPA against VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell, who in a public function admitted that members of Hindu organisations killed Fazil.
The government has been demolishing buildings in Bangalore, built over storm water drains. Fair enough. But, when we spoke with this house owners, most of them had occupancy certificates from the BBMP. So, how many BBMP officials have faced action so far?

The 18-year-old me, watching 'Hotel Rwanda' in college, never imagined that the people of our country would dangerously flirt with the idea of genocide one day.

The garbage outside our houses doesn't disappear magically in the morning. Those who work hard every day to keep Bangalore's streets clean are now on the streets demanding basic things like job security, better pay and respect. Show support Bangalore!
Police didn't allow students of IIM-B to protest outside the campus. So students left their footwear near the gates in protest. Strong visuals coming from the elite management school.

An underconfident Chief Minister has realised that old caste equations may not win him election. So, a plan is underway to make the next election about religion and not caste. The collateral damage in this big plan is the peace and prosperity of a state.
The Karnataka government has allowed the RSS to conduct its training camps inside Morarji Desai Residential Schools in the state. These schools are set up to provide free residential education to students from the minority communities.
Dear Kannada channel reporters covering the Adugodi car crash, your job is to report about the incident and not ask the parents what their children were doing out at night.
Dear rich dog owners, stop acting total jerks when a street Indie approaches your precious imported dog. Be nice to them and for god's sake don't hit them. You and your precious are on their turf. Respect that.
Karnataka Govt has decided to hand over the probe into PraveenNettaru's murder to NIA. This means a case under UAPA will be registered.
In July, three murders have been reported in coastal Karnataka. Only one case -- the murder of a BJP worker - has been handed over to NIA.
As I watch the Afghan tragedy unfold, my mind remains restless because Hamid hasn't responded to our messages or mails yet. Our batchmate from St Joseph’s, Hamidullah Afghan is the former mayor of Jalalabad; and perhaps the only Afghan who can sing the Kannada song Jinke marina.

In my career I have heard many police officers tell me with pride that if the dept decides to put someone behind bars, they will.
It has been 5 days since a Lingayat seer has been accused of child sexual abuse in Karnataka; forget arrest, police haven't even questioned him.
All those vehemently defending

Note to self. Don't write these things on text messages.

Those who batted for cases under UAPA during DJ Halli riots are silent on the riots in Shivamogga. I guess UAPA is applicable on when Muslims riot.
Since 2015 there have been over 900 riots in Karnataka but only in DJ Halli case UAPA was applied.

BBMP’s decision to provide free food for the poor at Indira canteen is good, but the implementation is problematic. Even though it is meant for people who can’t afford food, they have to provide a mobile number and Aadhar card to get the free food.
Thread: Furnaces and men are being pushed beyond their limits at Bengaluru’s crematoriums. I visited 3 of the 7 centres, where Covid-19 cases are cremated and in all of them, the staff were working for 16-19 hours shifts. Despite this, there were big queues of ambulances outside
Karnataka State Contractors Association has decided to stop all works in protest against the corruption in the government. They have alleged that it is not only Eshwarappa but other ministers are also demanding commissions. This comes in the wake of a contractor's alleged suicide
And he was right, it was the journalist in him that excited me that most. Once, when he was 99-years-old, I interviewed him for The Quint. My questions went on for more than an hour and beyond what the interview needed, and this is what he said about his journalism.
Migrant workers who left from Bengaluru to various parts of UP, on 5 May were charged Rs 800 to Rs 1,000 for their travel. This comes a day after the Central Government said they won't have to pay for the tickets. This is what migrant workers told The Quint.

Karnataka Home Minister has announced an anti-communal wing in Mangaluru to curb moral policing.
Interestingly, the announcement comes on a day when a probe has been launched against a police officer for assaulting a moral policing victim and forcing him to sign a blank paper.
