Today is the last day of Talisman Sabre 25, a military exercise hosted by Australia and Papua New Guinea from July 13 to August 4 and involved over 35,000 personnel from 19 nations. The focus was interoperability, collective deterrence, and regional security in the Indo-Pacific.

The last layer of NGC2 is the application layer. NGC2 replaces hardware-based stovepiped systems with software applications accessible on all warfighting functions. These apps, displayed as part of a common operating picture, can be used on various devices from corps to platoon.

At the TechNet Emergence conference, #ArmyG6 Chief Technology Officer CW5 Rylan Knight said the AUNP 2.0 is a living document that's periodically updated to continue driving progress. He stressed that data collection and curation provides a decisive advantage in future conflicts.

Traditionally, data is locked within specific programs, limiting its usability. NGC2’s unified data layer eliminates stovepipes, making information accessible across all warfighting systems, enabling seamless collaboration between warfighting functions.

The second layer of NGC2 is the integration layer, the core of NGC2, transforming data-centric solutions into actionable insights. It simplifies complexity and helps commanders to make faster, better-informed decisions in dynamic operational environments.

At TEM 14, leaders explained importance of Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) for integrating C2 hardware and software into ground & aviation platforms. By Aligning MOSA standards with accelerated technology refresh cycles, the Army balances standardization and innovation.

The first layer of NGC2 is the transport layer, which “moves the data…around the battlefield so units can stay connected over distance and terrain.” NGC2 provides commanders diverse transport options, allowing threat-informed decisions on data movement during operations.

Exercise Talisman Sabre 2025, running from July 13 to August 4 in Australia and Papua New Guinea, will involve over 35,000 military personnel from the U.S., Australia, and 17 other nations, enhancing interoperability and strengthening alliances.

The Army launched Detachment 201: The Army’s Executive Innovation Corps. This is an initiative to merge tech expertise with military innovation. The Army swore in four tech leaders from Palantir, Meta, OpenAI and Thinking Machines Lab to star, each a LTC.

Unlike past segmented systems for specific functions like fires or logistics, NGC2 integrates all warfighting areas into a unified stack framework, eliminating clunky interdependencies. The stack consists of four layers: transport, integration, data, and application layers.

Initiated by AFC and refined through rapid experimentation in initiatives like Project Convergence, NGC2 has improved user interface, data delivery, and decision cycles. NGC2 enables faster, more effective decision-making, aligning with the Army Transformation Initiative.

MG Ellis, former director of C2 CFT, has taken command of the 4th ID, which will serve as the main experimental unit for scaling the NGC2 system to the division level. At C2 CFT Ellis led NGC2 experimentation, giving him insight in how to integrate NGC2 to division-scale.
