I think you pointed out two of the factors. However, going into the deets, this is because Indian set ups train technique in isolation whereas a football match is about executing technique under pressure and with opposition. Also clearly, the IWL isn't at international intensity

Ashalata Devi - warrior, has she slowed down with age? Yes. Does she still have the defensive nous and chops? 200% yes. A veteran whose experience could have helped the team - yes. Unceremoniously dumped over a year ago.

Karthika Angamuthu isn't the quickest - on her feet. Cerebrally, she's been the heartbeat of every team that she's been a part of. Frozen out, barely played the qualifiers, yet still very much a thinking person's player.

In August when the Bangalore league filled with internationals and the IWL happened, 2 players stood out. Sanfida Nongrum scored 14, the one who scored the highest - 17 wasn't even picked. Spare a thought for Kajol D'Souza today.
Manisha Kalyan is India's best baller on the pitch & Sanfida is next. India were good in patches. In the initial phase, they created transitions after winning the second ball & via duels. After that phase, Taiwan were the better team & managed to open India up from all areas.

Thunderbolt from Manisha to bring India level. Had to be her. Two and a half games, she's toiled and fought for the badge. Incredible character and grit on display. Chinese Taipei haven't been able to handle her.
