Truth bomb time π£ Self-employment has not been easy for me. November last year I was let go from my dream job. It was a tough pill to swallow. By chance, a great company reached out to me for a VP Product role in the same week I got laid off. But something felt off.. π§΅

I highly recommend checking out @meetstef. His YT channel is a gold mine for founders in discovery / validation stage.
There is one thing standing between your business idea and the right customer... One thing you have to do the right way if you donβt want all your hard work to go to waste. A killer ad testing campaign. If you know how to do it right: - You move fast. - You learn a lot. - You

When stuck on a decision, try the Options Framework. This has been the most effective tool I used for a decade in Product Management at startups. Works great solo and for getting to a group decision. π§΅

Step 3. Analyze and decide. Usually the right decision will pop-out clearly. One option will have the most pros and least cons. Simple yet so powerful.

Step 2. Write pros and cons for each option. They need to be objective. Get people involved if you are working in a team. Write as many pros and cons as you can. Refine them.

Step 1. Write down all possible options. Each option represents a variant of the decision. Option 1 is always do nothing.

I'll keep it short, as it's so straight forward. But don't underestimate the power of simplicity.

Morning exercise is the best antidote to a bad night sleep. I slept terribly last night. Big storm rolled up at 1am. Daughter woke up at 6am like always. So I thought, how can I turn this around? I hopped on a spinning bike for 27 min. Felt so good after π§βπ»

This week I hopped on 10 calls with PMs. I posted my calendly on Linkedin. I promised free advice to the problems they were struggling with. - I learn their struggles (course material) - They get free advice - win-win Note to self: Get on calls w/ target audience more often.

It's crazy how many biz ideas start (and end) with - Decide the perfect name - URL search spree - Buy domain - Design Logo - Find the perfect color palette Decide it probably won't work without any customer validation. Rinse and repeat.

If you tweak your offer well enough... they might be more inclined to buy from you after having multiple touch points. Some study said it takes 7 points of interaction before a sales is likely π€― And if they don't join this cohort, maybe next one?

Learning #2: Prioritize email collection first In the initial stages, I think the better option is to collect emails. It's a way lighter commitment for the site visitor. You can chat and learn about their problems & needs.

But still, I regret not going prioritizing email collection. Sure some sales is great validation. But now everyone that had a slight interest in the course is gone. I have no way to contact them.

I collected some feedback from friends. They said: "you should offer a way to pay straight away" After hearing this a few times, I decided to change the CTA to Pre-order now instead of Join waitlist. Stripe instead of a typeform.
