On this Feast of the Chair of Peter, we join Catholics and those of good will around the globe in praying for Pope Francis: May he be restored to good health and be comforted at this critical time by our prayers and the maternal intercession of Mary, Help of the Sick.

So grateful that the Eucharistic Pilgrimage is giving witness in the City of Saint Paul this morning and that Jesus is finding a welcome in our streets. The procession from the Cathedral to the Capitol was a real blessing. Now off to the Church of the Assumption.

“Because by thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world”. So grateful to the families of Communion and Liberation for the annual Way of the Cross.

Please join me in praying for those who lost their lives in this morning’s tragic incident in Burnsville. We need to lift up as well their families and all first responders who risk their lives for our safety. John 15:13

We join Christians everywhere on this first day of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, guided by meditations prepared right here in the Twin Cities by the MN Council of Churches. May we echo Christ’s prayer that we all might be one (Jn 17:21).

Yesterday’s announcements in Rome, Rapid City and Duluth speak to the Church’s commitment to a thorough investigation of all allegations of abuse. Please join me in praying for those involved in this matter and for all those who have been harmed by abuse.

My heart goes out to the Lake Elmo Carmelites as they grieve the passing of Mother Rose of the Sacred Heart. I join them in giving thanks for Mother Rose's example of whole-hearted commitment to Christ and to the ideals of Carmel. May the angels lead her into paradise.

I rejoice with the Church of Duluth on the appointment of their new Shepherd: Bishop-elect Michel Mulloy of the Diocese of Rapid City. Arranging so quickly for such a capable successor might have been Bishop Sirba’s first miracle!

Another sign of hope: food distribution this morning at Sacred Heart on East Side of Saint Paul. Thanks to St Vincent DePaul Society and the heavenly choir of Notre Dame Sisters.
