Year 5 tested which material creates the most gas in cola. After heading outside for some very fizzy experiments, they were surprised to find that sugar caused the biggest reaction - even more than Mentos! A brilliant afternoon of curiosity and #messyscience 🙂@thesteptrust

During Science Week, Year 3 explored erosion by shaking a sugar cube with sand in a container. The sand rubbed the cube, breaking off small pieces and making it smaller. This showed us how rocks are worn down over time. We had great fun! #science #creativity @thesteptrust

"How much voltage does it talk to blow a lightbulb?". Whale class added 50volts and it was still lit, Walrus class blew theirs at 12volts (we concluded that with such a difference maybe there was another component causing a break in the circuit!)💡#understandingwhy @thesteptrust

Bat and Bee class have had an amazing week. During Science Week, they became 'germ destroyers', investigating the best ways to wash away naughty germs. They also became structural engineers, working in teams to explore how to make pasta bridges stronger. #teamwork @thesteptrust

Year 2 were also investigating how plants absorb water! We put celery in coloured water and watched the colour travel to the very top of the steam. This was a brilliant way to show us how water travels up the steam to the leaves. #understandingscience @thesteptrust

Year 2 scientists investigated materials this week. We tested which materials (foil, baking paper, tissue paper and fabric) would be strong or weak. We made predictions then conducted a fair test. A lot of our scientists were happy with their results! #science @thesteptrust

Year 1 tested their egg‑drop designs this week🥚🚀 They worked like engineers to protect the eggs… some survived and some went splat... but they had so much fun learning! #scienceisfun #getinvestigating @thesteptrust

Year 6 have been exploring time zones, using maps and atlases to compare countries of the world. They also used a ball and string to help visualise how lines of latitude and longitude can appear curved on a globe while still running straight #creativity #ourworld @thesteptrust

In Year 4 this week we started our new Art topic focused on William Morris and Andy Goldsworthy. Before exploring their work in detail, we looked back on all our prior learning. The children knew SO much - what brilliant memories! #gettingcreative #longtermmemory @thesteptrust

In science, Year 3 investigated how light travels through different materials by shining a torch on various objects. We learned to identify materials as transparent, translucent and opaque based on how much light travelled through them. #learningthroughexperiences @thesteptrust

Introducing our unexpected bands for the day. First, some of our incredibly enthusiastic and talented staff performed. They were followed by a group of brave, creative and energetic children as ‘The Amazing Dancing Apples’. What great performances! @RSMusicSchool @thesteptrust 🙂
