The UK–EU Summit on 19 May offers a key opportunity to reset the conversation and push for real progress on defence and security cooperation. This is a moment for leadership, vision and renewed partnership. /6.

Emerging threats — from cyber security to hybrid warfare and disinformation — demand close, cross-border collaboration. Neither the UK nor the EU can address these challenges alone. /5.

The war in Ukraine has shown the need for long-term strategic alignment. Both sides should be ambitious and negotiate a comprehensive, structured agreement that can underpin sustained foreign, security and defence cooperation. /4.

The discussion covered a number of practical, immediate steps to enhance cooperation — including UK participation in PESCO projects and CSDP missions. These initiatives offer clear, low-barrier opportunities to rebuild trust and operational links between the UK and the EU. /3.
