I was so proud of Leslee throughout her time in my lab, both for her accomplishments and her exceptional generosity and courage. Her work on developing better therapies for complex diseases is a testament to her unwavering commitment to making the world a more beautiful place.

I was honored to be able to celebrate Leslee’s life and confer her PhD degree in the presence of all her family and friends to recognize her hard work, dedication, and the exceptional promise of her research contributions over the past 5 years.

Leslee’s research focused on developing better drugs for managing diabetes and new types of immunotherapies to prevent diabetes and other autoimmune disorders. Leslee's contributions have advanced drug delivery science and immunoengineering, and will help improve people’s lives.

It is with extreme sadness I announce that Leslee Nguyen, a Biochemistry PhD student in the lab, tragically passed away last week after a short illness. She was passionate, creative, kind, and exceptionally genuine, driven both by a love of science and by a deep care for others.
