The High Side Tavern, formerly Ralph’s Country Club and Junior’s Night Spot. It used to be a great place to go get shot, stabbed, or hit over the noggin with a pool stick. These days it’s a great place to grab a burger. I guess what I’m trying to say is that they’ve gone soft…

A quick meal at Oma’s Haus in Coeburn, Virginia. Some German food that will leave you saying (or singing) Danke Schoen…

The historic Hicks House in Bluff City, Tennessee. Built circa 1900, it has most recently been used as a bed & breakfast, although the realtor sign in the yard makes me think it may not currently be open for business. Please correct me if I’m wrong about the status.

Love this old building in Russell County, VA . The old Pepsi sign and the tiny Marlboro sign in the doorway are the clinchers.

I love soaking up scenes like this one in Phelps, Kentucky. I always take time to absorb the fog hanging around the mountains.

I love running into old churches along the backroads and this one in Hamlin, Virginia, is no exception. Built on cinderblocks at the top of the hill, the stray chickens running around adds another layer to the scene.

The Cuts in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Quite infamous for being slick and icy this time of year, so watch yourself when driving there. Beautiful to look at though.

Today was a good day to grab some honey, fruit, veggies at The Big Red Apple Shed in Bristol, Tennessee. I didn’t think about it beforehand, but they got ‘em some mighty fine looking fruit baskets on hand. So, if any of y’all are looking to grab me a gift…or someone else one…

A look down Suffolk in my old hometown of Richlands, VA. The town hall sits at the end on the hill. You used to see the Mattie Williams Hospital, but it was flattened years ago in favor of the new building. I wasn’t a fan of the move back then, and I’m still not a fan of the move

I love this pic from the KY-VA border near Majestic. It was such a haunting, damp, foggy, eerily quiet place. I needed a break from driving and the scene just spoke to me. Almost as if it had a spell on me.

I can’t quite figure out what this old building once was in Garbers, Tennessee. It’s awfully tiny and close to the road. Any of you cats out there know the deal?

Love this photo from 1985 at the coal camp in Algoma, WV, in McDowell County. The lady named Hattie (hopefully someone from the area will recognize her) stands on the porch with laundry hanging up in the back. A big thanks to @brightsvillephotos for allowing us to post it.

The South Holston River appears to be all tucked in for the winter. I love the sight of the mountains in the backdrop. Beautiful in all four seasons.

This cold weather didn’t seem to bother them one bit, so I jumped out of the truck to see if they knew something I didn’t know. Welp, friends, I lived to regret that, it was colder than Bill Belichick’s handshake after a loss. How does the cold weather not seem to phase them?
