The High Side Tavern, formerly Ralph’s Country Club and Junior’s Night Spot. It used to be a great place to go get shot, stabbed, or hit over the noggin with a pool stick. These days it’s a great place to grab a burger. I guess what I’m trying to say is that they’ve gone soft…

The historic Hicks House in Bluff City, Tennessee. Built circa 1900, it has most recently been used as a bed & breakfast, although the realtor sign in the yard makes me think it may not currently be open for business. Please correct me if I’m wrong about the status.

I love running into old churches along the backroads and this one in Hamlin, Virginia, is no exception. Built on cinderblocks at the top of the hill, the stray chickens running around adds another layer to the scene.

A look down Suffolk in my old hometown of Richlands, VA. The town hall sits at the end on the hill. You used to see the Mattie Williams Hospital, but it was flattened years ago in favor of the new building. I wasn’t a fan of the move back then, and I’m still not a fan of the move

I love this pic from the KY-VA border near Majestic. It was such a haunting, damp, foggy, eerily quiet place. I needed a break from driving and the scene just spoke to me. Almost as if it had a spell on me.
