It's taken me 45 trips around the sun, but for the first time in my life I know what it feels like to have a "band-aid" in my own skin tone. You can barely even spot it in the first image. For real I'm holding back tears.

The Crown broke a promise to First Nations. It could now owe billions. "The annuity was small at first. But the treaties contained a novel clause: If the land produced in the future an amount that would allow the government 'without incurring loss'. ".

In 1850, Indigenous groups ceded much of what’s now Northern Ontario for a promise that any riches from the land would be shared with them. They’re still waiting.

"Symbols matter,” the mayor said in explaining why she thought the statue had to go. “They tell the world what we stand for and what we aspire to be. By removing the confederate monument from Springfield Park, we signal a belief in our shared humanity.".

The mayor ordered that “Women of the Southland” come down ahead of a proposed state bill to punish local officials who remove Confederate statues in Florida.

Amen. He literally should have been required to empty his pockets, turn over his wallet, surrender his car key fobs, and enter his bank account login information into a browser on the way out of the court room. He had/has utter disdain for a fair democracy/republic.

We all owe Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss for their service to our democracy. They served democracy at the polls and they helped protect it by holding dangerous defamer Rudy Giuliani accountable.

Just arrived in the mail! I was always impressed while attending @jakada_imani and Bex Ahuja's trainings while I was a manager @RaceForward, so I'm very excited to read their @managementctr book.

If you live anywhere within six hours driving distance or a short plane ride of the @deyoungmuseum, this Kehinde Wiley exhibit is 100% worth the effort. Open until Oct 15. The free audio tour is also a must. Believe me, make a special trip to San Francisco just to see it.

Kehinde Wiley @kehindewileyart's exhibition 'An Archaeology of Silence' tells the story of Black lives lost – and continue to lose – to racist, systemic violence. The collection of oil paintings and bronze sculptures is on view at @deyoungmuseum on Oct. 15.

". Just it being presented to the world changes what we think about, changes how we think. Changes the conversations that we would have or wouldn't be having if weren't so provoked. That's the power of art." - Hidari Davis on free audio tour, "Archaeology of Silence" #deYoung

One tough aspect of being Black in USA is it's sometimes (but not always) tough to know if you're experiencing a challenge because a) it's right/deserved that you do; b) it's wrong/undeserved that you do; c) you're suffering from racism; d) or not; or e) ANY combo of the above.
