When I say allergic I mean the last time this person had adhesives this person went into anaphylactic shock.
What do you do when you can't tough it out?
@Aoiferocksitout
I tell them but most of the time they ignore me. Sometimes they use alternatives (which I often react to). I had one nurse who used coflex & mesh wrap over the IV site instead.
@Aoiferocksitout
Yeah they donβt care. Iβm not sure why there arenβt more options; Iβm allergic to it, my best friendβs allergic to itβ¦we go without, or suffer scratch and bleed. Iβve never heard of an allergy to it that severe, but Iβm not surprised. Has she specifically asked an allergist?
@NerdyInNOLA
I don't think she has access to one.
Like you said, why aren't there more options?
If this is so common, why are some medical staff so dismissive about it or worse?
@Aoiferocksitout
Allergic to adhesive. I wonder if they could wrap gauze around the IV site to secure it? Can this person tolerate proximate exposure to adhesives? Like on top of gauze but not touching their skin? Maybe gauze secured by the little metal clips on ACE bandages?
@Aoiferocksitout
@DisabledDem
if no alternatives work, mesh wrap? if that doesn't work id suggest getting tested for all sensitivities related to this to see if any would work. also being very insistent with doctors that no adhesives work would be best, as in my experience they dismiss you
@Aoiferocksitout
Most adhesives burn my skin, I have a scar from a band aid. My skin can usually handle tegaderm dressings though sometimes on softer more delicate areas they can start to get irritated after a few days too.
@Aoiferocksitout
Honestly Iβm not *that* allergic so I just deal with the itching except for like surgery where I am very clear that weβre using stitches and not glue. Iβve literally never heard of any alternatives or been offered them so uh. If I knew of alternatives I probably wouldnβt do that
@adreamingone
I have a feeling coban is not an option for my friend, neither is taking allergy meds beforehand.
I'll pass on the kitty love though! πππ
