The transition from the sun setting for a few hours each night to the sun being above the horizon for 24 hours a day over a couple of weeks in October at Scott Base, #Antarctica.

A busy day for me today, out in the hagglunds on the sea ice of McMurdo Sound, #Antarctica. I was installing some research cameras to monitor the local seals. The last time I was in this location back in February last summer I was in a zodiac, and this whole area was open water.

It's hard to wrap your brain around just how big some of the glaciers in #Antarctica are. Flying over the Byrd Glacier, this was half way across after 6 minutes flying at 100knots. The top of the glacier on the Polar Plateau in the distance is about 100Km away. @AntarcticaNZ

They are pretty rare, but occasionally you will spot an adelie penguin with different coloration. This is one I spotted this summer when I was filming at Cape Bird with @AntarcticaNZ. In the background the chicks are panting from the heat. #Antarctica #Penguins
