So, to improve the mood a little bit…
Thrilled to announce I’m joining the staff at
@LakersDailyCom
as their Lakers Insider.
And this doesn’t change anything. Still hosting The Lounge. Still writing on my substack. Just a platform for my exclusive reporting. Let’s get it.
Colin Castleton finished with 21 Points, 14 Rebounds, and 3 Assists today.
Through four Summer League games: 15.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 23-for-33 FG (70%).
The Lakers could’ve had one of the top rookies from a loaded class, a Mexican who grew up in the area and starred at UCLA… and didn’t even work him out individually. It hurts, man. It HURTS.
Darvin Ham said he took Anthony Davis’ comments after G2 that the Lakers “have stretches when we don’t know what we’re doing” as “frustration”, and he’ll “agree to disagree” with AD.
Ham said the Lakers coaching staff prides itself on being organized.
The Russ trade really took the Lakers from title contention to outright implosion. I've already considered it the worst trade in Lakers history but it really might be up there for worst trade of all time, given the stakes. Wild.
Before LeBron, NBA champions were basically all decided by who had the better big man or whose big outplayed the other one. Now it's a wing-dominated sport. Surely just a coincidence.
Bill Simmons argues LeBron didn’t change the game of basketball
“LeBron was the best player in the league for basically a decade and a half and had one of the great careers ever, but you wouldn’t say he changed how basketball is played."
You cannot. Abso-fucking-lutely CAN. NOT. Waste this Anthony Davis season. Him being good enough to make LeBron the second best player on the team was always the hope. Now just give them a chance. Please.
The AD trade gets a lot of attention but at least that netted the Lakers a championship. Clippers traded a zillion picks and SGA and haven't gotten shit from the Paul George, Kawhi Leonard era.
Knicks fans you might've missed out on Donovan Mitchell but just think, for just $47M you could have a first ballot hall of famer, top 75 player of all time and triple double machine!
Really think Russell Westbrook stans should've made an all defense team this year. Given their assignment night by night they did some truly elite work.
Within this answer from Darvin Ham:
“I’m tired of people living and dying with every single game we play. It’s ludicrous. Actually. Like, come on, man. It's a marathon."
Russ has had an incredible career and he’s one of the most talented players I have ever seen. On an individual basis, he's accomplished things in his profession few will ever get close to in theirs.
His answers tonight also explain why the dude hasn’t won shit on a team level.
It's so funny looking at these results because you'd think the Lakers traded for Jokic or Giannis but nope the key adjustment was "play your best players"
Rui going from being the story of the series to single digit minutes in the first half of the last two games is maddening. Ham has completely taken him out of the series.
As a lifelong Mikwaukee Bucks fan there is no one better equipped to right the ship than Darvin Ham. He has championship experience with the organization. No matter what you have to give up, you have to get this one right.
THE LAKERS ARE CONSIDERING A BLOCKBUSTER TRADE
but also they believe in russell westbrook
BUT THEY REALLY JUST MIGHT DO THE HIELD TURNER TRADE YOU'VE HEARD ABOUT 37 THOUSAND DIFFERENT TIMES
but they also really believe in this team
BUT THEY CLEARLY DON'T
but
Embarrassing as it was for everyone involved, Magic resigning from a team he loves because of the way the Lakers operate probably should've been a red flag.
With a win tonight, the Lakers could sit 6 games above .500. That would be their highest mark of the season so far. It’s a critical game for the standings against a team also trudging through the mud.
What I’m saying is they’re gonna be down 9 like 35 seconds into the game.
Pelinka was promoted without earning it, stumbled drunkenly into a championship, tore it down (thus proving it was an accident), made the worst trade in franchise history, hasn't fixed that mistake, and now gets an extension. Unserious organization. Period.
