We are sad to learn that our neighbours Yellow Buses will cease all bus routes after tomorrow. They have been trading for 120 years. Morebus will commence operating new services to replace the main routes from Saturday. I hope that many Yellow Buses staff will apply to work….
We’re drafting in various buses in for our
@BluestarHQ
new services starting next month. Here are some of them being prepared at Eastleigh Depot for this next exciting stage in their lives.
Just received the pre-production version of the superb Northcord model of our
@SouthernVectis
@ADLbus
route 3 bus. Like the real thing, it advertises how buses help the environment and traffic congestion. This one will sell well when it’s released.
Our new six
@BluestarHQ
services started in
@SouthamptonCC
today. All buses were out running correctly, all bus stop information updated. What has made this so successful is my people. Pictured today are Tony, Andrew, Wayne and Ben who were working on the first day…
The first of our new
@ADLbus
double decks for
@Morebusco
services m2 and then x3 are nearing completion at the Scarborough factory. The first of these should be with us and entering service soon.
One for train people. You don’t get many of these round here. A well-timed lunchtime constitutional found the 0713 Wolverton - Bournemouth at Poole. Sound up!
Also making good progress are the new double decks for
@BluestarHQ
Bluestar 2 and Bluestar 7. Pictured here at the
@ADLbus
factory in Scarborough, the first will be entering service with us in a few weeks.
Today, we say farewell to our
@BluestarHQ
workshops and offices at Eastleigh following the move to our Southampton depot. We still run buses from here, but far fewer than before (no change to services). Goodbye old friend, you’ve served us well.
Just over 30 years ago, I walked into London General’s head office and commenced my continuous employment with
@TheGoAheadGroup
. My directors took me out for a few beers and a bite to eat to celebrate - thank you, lads. It’s been a great 30 years and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Our Southampton Depot could be mistaken for a London bus garage from some angles at the moment! The reality is that these London buses are being prepared to help out at
@SouthernVectis
for
@IsleOfWightFest
.
This day in 1992, I first walked through the doors of London General, and started a 28 year career with
@TheGoAheadGroup
, via London, Go-Ahead itself, Wilts & Dorset, Plymouth Citybus and Go South Coast. Not sure where the time’s gone, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way!
Following the sad news that very long established First Bus/City Reds will stop running in Southampton in February, I’m pleased to confirm that
@BluestarHQ
will replace the withdrawn services such that nobody will be left without a service. We are making our detailed plans now.
Here’s our heritage 1978 Bristol VRT, which is nearing the end of a major rebuild to replace wooden and corroded bodywork parts. Should be back on the road before much longer!
So ends the strangest week of my career. I am bowled over by the huge commitment of my entire team, including drivers who are in the front-line getting key workers to work, and managers dealing with rapid change and working successfully to protect everyone’s job.
Pleasure and an honour to hand over one of our Dennis Dart buses to
@LeonDaniels
who drove it to
@PaulSainthouse
@dawsongroupplc
in Swindon for storage. The bus will then be converted into a field hospital in Ukraine. Here's th ebus being handed over, & after arrival in Swindon.
In Manchester today for a meeting at our sister company
@gnwbus
. As soon as I walked into the depot, I saw an ‘old friend’, which they acquired from us in October.
Great event at Newport this morning to launch our seven brand new double decks for
@SouthernVectis
route 1, which links Newport and Cowes. Great to see so many stakeholders and customers.
Our newly unveiled ‘thank you’ bus, appropriately to be used on
@BluestarHQ
17 serving
@UHSFT
. Not forgetting the huge contribution of our own key workers of course.
#ThankYouNHS
At Bournemouth Square, Marina was kept busy today helping customers to use our new services. We’ve brought buses in from other parts of the company, so she also had to explain what our multi colour buses were doing!
This winter, we’ll start running electric buses on
@SalisburyReds
Park & Ride services to Britford & St Peters Finger. Big investment to improve air quality and with help from our partners
@transportgovuk
and
@wiltscouncil
. You may have seen this electric bus on test this week.
In Southampton today having a ride on our old and new
@BluestarHQ
services. Everything’s in order and the enthusiasm and performance of our people there is outstanding.
Even less familiar in our area are ten
@Go_Ahead_London
London double decks, now with us to give extra safe capacity for customers at
@BluestarHQ
&
@Morebusco
. They are now being prepared for service. Many thanks to the team that collected them on Saturday.
In Bournemouth for the first day of our new
@Morebusco
services. Here is instructor Ivan explaining our depot and its equipment to Chris, on Chris’s first day.
Here’s Richard
@RichardONCL10
our
@morebus
General Manager who I saw this week to celebrate his 25 years’ service. He joined sister company
@METROBUS
in 1998 & has been with us since 2015. A hugely respected leader with us. Thank you for your loyalty and very hard work Richard.
At the
@ADLbus
factory in Scarborough to inspect new buses including this new
@Morebusco
double deck for our partners
@bournemouthuni
. Has that ‘new bus’ smell!
Honoured to take part in the handover of our Dennis Dart bus to His Excellency Vadym Prystaiko, Ukraine Ambassador to the UK. The bus is now a field hospital and will go to Ukraine soon. Looking forward to giving more buses to this most worthwhile of projects.
Today was the grand opening of our new
@Morebusco
Bournemouth Depot, with
@TheGoAheadGroup
CEO David Brown and BCP Council Leader
@vikki4mdnp
. As you can see, David and I are strong men! Great new facilities for colleagues and buses, incl. these great new bus lifts.
Another superb Imberbus event. My driving trips were on our
@PurbeckBreezer
open-top 1710, providing a contrast to the usual London red Routemasters. Very busy, so hopefully lots of money raised for Imber’s good causes.
This was the pair of seats behind me on my train home this evening, where the occupant ate crisps so loudly, I could barely hear my podcast. Shame they failed to get most of them into their mouth. How can people think it’s ok to make such a mess for others to clear up?
Great day driving our
@Morebusco
Breezer at Imber today. Huge number of happy people; sorry for the long queues. And our buses were the platform for the many photographers of the evening procession!
Interesting day to see the new
@BYDCompany
BD11 electric double deck at the London Bus Museum at Brooklands today. This is a London type bus, with one more equipped to our specification to follow.
Here is our Yutong demonstrator electric bus for
@SouthernVectis
. We’re trialling different EVs ahead of ordering for 2026. It’ll be on Route 1 for a weeks; give it a try and complete our survey to tell us what you think of it.
And we’ve now won Bus Operator of the Year at the National Transport Awards! Thrilled! Thank you to all my wonderful colleagues who have won this for us.
A large number of
@Morebusco
friends and stakeholders joined us for the opening, and enjoyed a trip through our new bus wash, on this new service 13 bus. We now have a lot of engineers and drivers wanting to join our existing great team at this superb new depot.
Delighted to see so many stakeholders, supporters and colleagues at the official launch of our new
@Morebusco
m1 double deck buses in Bournemouth this morning.
This is Allen who works as a driver at
@Morebusco
and celebrated an incredible 55 years with us earlier this month, though he looks nowhere near old enough for that. He joined the day Poole Bus Station opened! Thank you for your many years of loyalty and hard work Allen.
Here’s our new
@Morebusco
paper timetable book. It includes our long standing and new routes, along with the
@BCPCouncil
services operated by Yellow Coaches. The map shows everything and it is being distributed to every house near a bus route. We still have web and app as well.
On the Cross Country train heading home and just passed through Didcot. The driver of our train tooted at a steam engine at the Didcot steam railway centre, and the steam engine whistled back. I appear to be taking part in a Thomas The Tank Engine story.
Starting in London today, so breakfast earlier at the excellent Bus Stop Cafe - part of the UK’s largest all-electric bus garage, belonging to our colleagues
@Go_Ahead_London
and open to all. They no longer need the ‘no revving’ sign however!
This is so frustrating. My staff moved heaven and earth to get this service running at very short notice. Today is its first day, and we get this after a couple of hours. The service will be back in 2023, and before that we need to sit down with BCP and Dorset Police to ensure…
Due to heavy congestion and parked cars, we are currently unable to reach the bus stop at Boscombe Pier on Route 12. Intending passengers are advised to alight and board from St Johns Road or Boscombe Cliff Drive. Apologies for the inconvenience ^LW
Lots of talk about shortage of drivers, and this affects us in some areas too. But I've just signed 29 letters congratulating and thanking colleagues for their long service, clocked up next month. People are the core of the company, and its great to have so many loyal colleagues
Visit this morning to our
@Morebusco
Swanage Depot. We run Purbeck Breezers 40 and 50 and school services from Swanage, and the small team do an excellent job providing these services for the Isle of Purbeck and beyond.
Great day yesterday at the official launch of our six new
@BluestarHQ
services in Southampton. Thank you Lord Mayor
@Jacwee67
and Council Leader
@LabourSatvir
for your very kind words. This is just the start, with much work to do to increase bus use across the city & south Hants.
Bus commentator and superstar
@BusAndTrainUser
came to see how the new services were doing. He bumped into old colleague Ken. They worked together at the West Riding bus company in Yorkshire, many years ago.
Desperately sad news from Go-Ahead London , where driver colleague Kenneth Matcham was killed in a road traffic collision in Orpington last night. Thoughts from everyone in Go South Coast are with his family.
Beginning of the end of an era, as the first of our original
@Morebusco
buses headed north for a new life today. Sad day, as these buses kickstarted the highest rate of growth in bus use in the country and have served us well over the years In Bournemouth and Poole.
Busy busy busy today at
@HDTrim
with London New Routemasters, open top conversation, refurbishment for
@Cardiffbus
and repaints for
@BluestarHQ
underway in the factory.
A year ago today, we acquired
@thamesdown
- time has flown. It’s been a great year, thank you to everyone there for making me so welcome. More good stuff to come in the year ahead!
Good to talk to
@PaulCliftonBBC
for
@BBCSouthNews
about how more people are using our clean and safe buses, and how we could accommodate more. On at 18:30 this evening.
Here’s our new
@Morebusco
winter timetable booklet. It’s in addition to everything we do online and on our app. People are returning to our clean, safe buses, and we need to make it as easy as we can for them to obtain information about our services.
Today,
@TheGoAheadGroup
Chief Executive, and my boss, David Brown, announced his retirement. He's done a brilliant job over the past 10 years for this company, the Group and the wider industry. Thank you for your leadership and support, David.
Superb day thanks to
@iowbusmuseum
to celebrate the 100th birthday of
@SouthernVectis
predecessor. Wonderful trip over the original routes on this 87 year old Dennis Ace - itself a predecessor of our current double decks. Look at those interior lights!
I’m on a train. Opposite me, a man is conducting some poor individual’s performance review by mobile phone. The review isn’t being conducted in English, it is in management speak. The man opposite would not last long in my business.
GO WEST!
@BrightonHoveBus
double deck Scania 905 about to leave its old home of Conway Street, Hove, and after arriving
@BluestarHQ
Eastleigh for a new life here, this afternoon. Not a bad drive!
Apologies to our customers for such slow journeys. It demonstrates starkly that the objectives of the Government’s National Bus Strategy are not achievable without controls on car parking and systematic bus priority measures.
Due to a huge amount of seaside traffic across the conurbation we are seeing delays of up to:
X3 - 1hr 30 mins
m1 - 44 mins
m2 - 53 mins
13 - 16 mins
17 - 51 mins
50 - 52 mins
70 - 41 mins
^LW
Farewell and hello! A group of Bluestar colleagues, led by
@russellcade67
, were keen to preserve
@BluestarHQ
DAF Cadet bus 3142. As a result of all our new buses, 3142 is now surplus, so we gave them the bus to preserve. Here they are yesterday picking up their acquisition.
The plan was to make a final journey on the 1938 tube trains on the Isle of Wight, but they had broken down yesterday so no trains.
@SouthernVectis
to the rescue!
Called in to our
@Morebusco
Recruitment Centre at the Village Hotel in Bournemouth. Delighted that so many people, sadly redundant from Yellow Buses, are joining us. We’ll be running a full service on our new routes that start tomorrow.
We’ve won Large Bus Operator of the Year for the second year running at the
@routeoneteam
Awards. Thank you to every one of our team for making this happen.
