Can’t believe that a simple explanation based on a widely misinterpreted study from one of the dumbest guys on the planet didn’t convince her.
Dan Shulman just announced on the Jays broadcast that, though he's unavailable because he calls games for ESPN Radio, MLB has allowed Sportsnet to use their own broadcasters for the Jays' first round-playoff games. Buck Martinez and Joe Siddall will have the call. Great news.
The Jays basically traded Marcus Stroman and most of the money they would have spent on a Stroman extension for Ryu, Simeon Woods Richardson and Anthony Kay. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Apologies to all those who subscribed via my content recently, but it turns out that today was my last day at The Athletic!
I’m a free agent now, so hit me up with opportunities if you got ‘em.
And I’m sure we’ll sort out the podcast thing, and whatever else is next, real soon.
Genuinely hard to overstate how pathetic it is celebrate the chickenshit team that waited until the eighth inning of their last scheduled matchup of the season to try to get even because of a months-old game in which they humiliated themselves out of the playoffs. Lol
Blue Jays: *sign Hyun Jin Ryu* *trade for Robbie Ray and Taijuan Walker* *sign George Springer and Marcus Semien* *trade for José Berríos* *sign Kevin Gausman and trade for Matt Chapman*
Weirdos on the internet after four trades that don’t involve the Jays: TYPICAL JAYS INACTION
Law says he hears the Jays will take Martin. "An enormous home run. Blue Jays fans should be over the moon. I think they get the best player in the draft."
Didn’t feel great this morning so backed out of Xmas Eve dinner. Felt bad about the idea of cancelling but knew I really shouldn’t risk it. Managed to get my hands on a rapid test through an amazing friend with access to them and it came up positive. My advice: don’t risk it!
To be clear: This is not just a Red Sox thing. Teams across baseball, sources say, are concerned with the ramifications of unvaccinated players not being allowed to play in Toronto. If the rules don't change, they could offer a significant competitive advantage for the Blue Jays.
“After trying and failing for decades to extort money from state and local governments for a new park we decided to cut every cost we could, pocket every unspent dollar, give the fans the middle finger, and take our license to print money elsewhere. This gives us the sads.”
From the "things you love to see" file: the Jays announce there will be a tribute to Russell Martin on July 1, with him in the house throwing out the first pitch!
Love how the score on the screen stays at 90-90, as though person whose job it is to change the graphic just went ahead and lost their mind for a minute like everyone else
James Reimer, Logan Couture and David Quinn all spoke with the media. Here is Reimer's official statement about declining to wear a Pride jersey tonight ...
The Jays played like 70 home games in BUFFALO the last two years and these teams are crying about rules that apply to literally every traveller on either side of the border. There’s not enough shit in the world for them to eat!
Vlad Jr., 40 pounds lighter than last year and playing in just his 36th pro game at first base, did the full-on splits to catch a poor throw from Biggio and we’re talking about his foot coming off the bag.
The Jays have $64M in commitments next season. Put another way, they’re at $135M this year, $38M of which is Ray/Semien/Roark. Ryu and Grichuk off the books after ‘23, when Teo extension would kick in. Bo and Vlad not really pricey until 25/26. Ray and Semien deals very doable.
Can’t believe Doug Ford has finally managed to match his brother’s ability to get the entire province to stop in its tracks and yell about what a gigantic useless fuckup he is. Wasn’t sure he had it in him. Inspiring stuff.
We all know that McDonalds has better coffee than Tim's, but did we also know they're capable of putting an amount of cream cheese on a bagel that resembles the way a normal human might do it, rather than an amount preferred by some alien being that only breathes cream cheese?
I would absolutely trade Dan Vogelbach and *MAYBE* 0.5 extra WAR for Joey Votto in a Blue Jays uniform and anyone who disagrees will not see the light of heaven.
BREAKING: Right-hander Kevin Gausman and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a five-year, $110 million contract, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.
We could stop the pandemic. Our leaders don’t want to. “You’re on your own” has been a goal of conservatives for decades. This is that ideology functioning as designed, letting people go broke or die for the sake of business. And people will vote for it again. Total insanity.
@elonmusk
The vaccinated ones do. The ones in the news today are pathetic crybaby reactionaries push big standard right wing white grievance garbage. But I’ll say this for them: at least their vehicles don’t blow up at random or run over pedestrians on autopilot.
Would be more OK with the baseball season being over if there were fewer teams in the playoffs that are objectively worse than the 2021 Toronto Blue Jays tbh
Guy who spoke at a “yellow vest” event that Faith Goldy also spoke at, who appeared on her Rebel Media show, and whose campaign manager is a former director of Rebel, would like to take a minute to express his dismay about racism. 🙄
Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer gives statement in Sherbrooke, Que. "...I was extremely shocked and disappointed when I learned of Justin Trudeau's actions this evening... It was just as racist in 2001 as it is in 2019." Says Trudeau is "not fit to govern this country"

Really appreciate the kind words, everyone. Not sure I like the fact that my two most interacted-with tweets ever are from the times I’ve been shitcanned, but I do appreciate the love. Will figure out what’s next very soon and you will all be the first to know.
As much as sports can be such absolute bullshit, it’s this kind of stuff — connecting with strangers and neighbours, being emotionally invested and (literally) on the same team — that makes it almost feel worthwhile on a human level. You love to see it.
Not complaining about this middle seat. Just landed in Toronto but the kind

fan in front me me held her laptop up ALL GAME LONG so others could watch. What a game 🙌
Remember when a bunch of MLB teams tried to score easy PR points by congratulating the Marlins for hiring an incredibly qualified new GM they had all passed over for 15 years?
Joe Rogan interviewed Andy Ngo yesterday about his antifa concrete milkshake attack and "brain hemorrhage". Joe knows a lot about getting punched in the head from his UFC days and was skeptical of Ngo's miraculous recovery.
OK, it's finally time. I've started writing about the

Syndergaard would be a perfect “get a back-end innings eater while shutting up the complainers because they still think he’s a name” get for the Blue Jays.
The Rays' payroll commitments for next year now stand at ~$10M. That's $8.167M for Kiermaier, $2M they're still paying Longoria. Everyone else is in arb, or pre-arb. LOL.
