@MemorySteelUA also sent this token made from a Russian T-72 tank. It comes with a serial number and one can feel its weight. The wooden box is a handsome addition. You can have your own at https://t.co/ewWglqiDGA If you enter promo code “UA2023”, you will get 10% off!

An amazing accessory to support Ukraine: @MemorySteelUA is creating these bracelets from actual Russian tanks. I love mine because it’s a tangible reminder of Ukraine’s sacrifices in the ongoing war.

We dispose and recycle Russian equipment. We created a unique Ukrainian bracelet from the armor of a Russian tank. Inspired by the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian army ❤️ We will be grateful for your retweet and support 🤝 #SupportUkraine #MemorySteelUA #SlavaUkraini #brutal

Did you know that if you step on an unexploded WW1 bomb, you are added to the war's official casualty list? In an exclusive for Countere, @AndremoMedia writes about his expedition to the abandoned battlefields of Slovenia, where the ghosts of WW1 rage on. https://t.co/fSe7OshBzl

The group being called “Wagner” (although the meaning is totally different) adds another layer of irony. Richard Wagner was Hitler’s favorite composer. He would’ve been gleeful to see this development today. This is not a statement on Wagner’s politics, just a convenient pun.

The last time trenches were dug to defend Moscow was in 1941. The Germans never entered Moscow then, but today Wagner might successfully do it. Ironic that the first hostile force to enter Moscow since the time of Napoleon comes from within Russia itself.

Battlefield finds at Caporetto today. The battle was so concentrated and so violent that a mere 18% of the battlefield has been excavated, and the rest is sealed off. There are almost certainly live munitions underground.

Update: drawing closer to the catharsis of the subject I intend to cover. Today, on the battlefield of the Isonzo, I found several WWI relics.

Louise made a goal to climb to the highest point in every EU nation. She has tackled nine summits, but Triglav has been a unique obstacle. “I had no clue conditions would be so bad,” says Louise, “but I *have to* summit.” Her ambition shines with every word and expression.

Her name is Louise James. She’s a British national who, yesterday, attempted to summit Triglav and tomorrow morning will awake at 3 AM to try again, although conditions are extremely dangerous right now. Although locals have tried to stop her, she will not be discouraged.

With a mate-drinking Argentine; two Finns; and Dutchwoman, I’ve been discussing the best way to face this issue, as the via ferrata is engulfed in snow and even snowshoes and crampons cannot gain purchase. This morning as we were having coffee, a remarkable visitor came in…

I’m staying in a little cabin in a village called Mojstrana, the last scrap of civilization before the Julian Alps. Everyone here is a climber; most want to tackle Triglav, the tallest mountain, which is nearly impossible right now due to two meters of melting snow at the summit.

Hey everyone, a few days without updates - I’ve been doing nonjournalistic things in favor of lots and lots of hiking, biking, and mountain climbing, but today I’m back on track. Now I’m among seasoned mountain climbers, and they have excellent stories to tell.

Summiting Triglav, which has been my life’s dream, is now out of the question. That’s unfortunate. But I will return to Europe at some point, I’m certain. For now, I just have to survive one night at 1700m, amid avalanches and fallen trees, and then onward to the green valleys.

So, I have to make a hard decision: find a safer route and do less, or risk my life for *just one day* to complete my itinerary as planned - truly, the pass through which I hope to pass is the highest I will go, and then it’s all downhill.

I’m no stranger to danger; that much is evidenced through my Ukraine experiences. But this time, the foe is a force that always wins - nature. “A weaver wishes to mend his web, a calculator wishes to correct his mistakes, and nature wishes to destroy everything.” - Hadrian
