For a new design you should: - Draw inspiration from past projects. - Don't reinvent the wheel if you don't need to. - Come up with alternatives. - Research and seek professional help if you've never done it before. - Produce calculations to prove the design. #engineering

Not the typical way of bridging across a river. Bridges usually cross rivers almost perpendicular. Arches usually run parallel to road. This arch prevents the need for piers in the centre of the river which is good. You don’t want to interrupt the natural flow paths of the river.

The Augmented Age: 1.) Supercomputers running through millions of scenarios. 2.) Best structural solutions will mimic shapes seen in nature. 3.) Complexity of structures will require robots to print them. 4.) Building structures will become growing structures. #future #engineers

If you want to design this: 1.) Structural steel truss bridge is out of fashion. 2.) Corrosion prevention is a constant battle. 3.) Much quicker to build. 4.) Depth of truss is determined by span length and allowable deflections. #civil #bridges #structure #structuralengineer
