2025 Economics Nobel laureate Joel Mokyr published in a top-five economics journal twice—in 2018 and 2023. That alone should prompt reflection on why the current obsession among top departments with “Top 5 or bust” publishing is misplaced.

The USDA's October World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (#WASDE) report was due Thursday, though most expectations are it will be canceled due to the government shutdown. Here's a list of other reports that may be canceled, too: https://t.co/OHiItGUJnv

Political reporters are not energy reporters and so this isn’t being treated like a major political thing yet. But it is. People hate high prices especially when it is a deliberate policy choice of the federal government.

What happens when the U.S. restricts H-1B visas? Firms don’t stop hiring talent, they just move jobs abroad. For every visa rejection, multinationals add ~0.4–0.9 foreign employees, especially in R&D hubs like India, China, and Canada.

I don’t think I have ever publicly criticized any Presidential nominee before. But E.J. Antoni is completely unqualified to be BLS Commissioner. He is an extreme partisan and does not have any relevant expertise. He would be a break from decades of nonpartisan technocrats.
