2/ Peaceful rallies & the right to deliver petitions to elected representatives are protected civic actions. Using force to prevent people from peacefully assembling & petitioning their government is a violation of human rights and must stop.

🧵1/ 📢 Stop the unnecessary use of force against peaceful protestors. Today, PSM members & plantation workers marching to Parliament to submit a memorandum on the Akta Skim Perumahan Pekerja Ladang were met with aggressive policing. @PDRMsia, this is unacceptable.

Today is #WorldIndigenousDay ✊🏽🌏. In Malaysia, the Orang Asal & Orang Asli have long defended their lands, cultures, languages & way of life — yet still face threats to their rights & heritage. Their fight is our fight. Indigenous rights are human rights — today & every day!

On 6 Aug, Pannir Selvam returns to the Singapore Court of Appeal, still fighting for his life. Sentenced to mandatory death in 2017 for 50g of heroin, denied a fair trial. This is his 3rd time facing execution. Sign the petition: 🎥: @freedomfilmfest

#PertahanHakProtes #AktaPerhimpunanAman

The Peaceful Assembly Act amendments are coming — but will they go far enough?. @saifnasution says 99% of 10k assemblies since 2023 were “unrestricted.” But the reality? Intimidation. Legal threats. Silenced voices. Qistina Johari from AIM explains why we need real reform!

PEACEFUL PROTEST IS NOT A CRIME. Activist @chegubard was arrested just days after the #TurunAnwar protest under Sedition Act, Penal Code, Communications and Multimedia Act, and Minor Offences Act. Reform means nothing if peaceful dissent is still punished. #ProtectTheProtest

🚨 Peaceful protesters blocked at Parliament. AIM and civil society groups condemn police obstruction of those submitting a memorandum on the Peaceful Assembly and Sedition Acts. Protest is a right — not a threat. Authorities must facilitate, not frustrate, peaceful assembly.

“Striking down Section 9(5) is not enough. The rest of the PAA still gives far too much power to the police and still treats protest as a threat.” – Qistina Johari, Amnesty Malaysia Campaigner

Despite 2019 amendments, the PAA still contains oppressive elements:.⚠️ Criminalises organisers under Section 9(5).⚠️ Grants excessive powers to police.⚠️ Discriminates against youth, non-citizens & kids.⚠️ Blanket protest bans.⚠️ Surveillance & harassment
