The movie was supposed to be like a modern retake of Donner's Superman. Not exactly a complete retake but YKWIM. Reeves' Superman AND Clark were both iconic and very interesting revisions of the character, specifically for Clark.

I love both ideas of Clark Kent. Mild mannered and calm.OR.Dorky and extremely friendly. Both are classics! Both ideas work very well and I understand why people are upset Gunn didn't go this route. I like what David did here.
