When they're having a meltdown, check in on your emotional state. Do you feel like having a meltdown too?

Sometimes, making a statement instead of asking a question can open up bigger conversations.

Some habits can make acne worse. Don’t pop or squeeze, as this increases inflammation. Be gentle when washing as scrubbing causes flares. Stay out of tanning beds or sunlight. When acne is not responding to over-the-counter products, talk to us for medication.

What are you doing differently to make your child's journey happier?

Acne can hurt not just your teen’s skin, but also their mental health. Recommend your teen wash with a gentle soap, follow with a light, water-based moisturizer and then apply a thin layer of acne medication over their whole face and other places prone to breakouts.

Spring is the PERFECT time to give your child a magnifying glass and watch them explore the outside! Your child will see insect egg cases, worms, tiny fungi, bird feathers and so much more. Get out your smartphone and help your child search and identify what they've found.

Family dinner time is important for yet another reason! Children who spent about 10 minutes longer sitting at a family meal ate about one more portion of fruits and vegetables, according to a study, and may be because the fruits and vegetables were cut into bite-sized pieces.

A study found new US diagnoses of pediatric asthma declined by 52% across the first year of the pandemic. Researchers suggested that COVID-19 prevention practices such as masking and social distancing lowered children's exposure to respiratory viruses.

We love our pets - and now we have another reason! "Research uncovered a link between dog ownership and lower risk of egg, milk and nut allergies among children, while having a cat in the home was associated with lower risk of egg, wheat and soybean allergies.

Can a diaper rash cause a fever? Unfortunately yes - and that’s when to call Alzein Pediatrics. You’ll also want to call if the rash doesn’t resolve with home treatment, or seems to get worse. Watch for bleeding or oozing and call us to prevent an infection.

Over the counter creams work wonderfully to relieve diaper rash. Petroleum jelly also works to help prevent diaper rash by shielding skin from moisture and bacteria. Consider doing tummy time without a diaper, placing baby on a few towels, to air out any rash.

Wipes, even those for sensitive skin, can cause diaper rash and can also make it worse. Wash baby’s bottom with warm warm and a gentle cloth instead. Save the soap for baby’s bath, just a few times each week.
