"Music for the Masses" was the point at which Depeche Mode were first taken seriously. It's a landmark album that was the blueprint for the group's music going forward.

Depeche Mode members Andrew Fletcher and Martin Gore both explained the album's title was conceived as a joke, after Gore found an old record called Music for the Millions. Fletcher said, "The title's ... a bit tongue-in-cheek, really.

"Music for the Masses" was supported by the 1987–1988 Music for the Masses Tour, which helped to further launch DM's fame in North America when they performed at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California to over 70,000 fans, captured in the live album and video documentary "101".

"Music for the Masses" release marked a shift in the visual identity of Depeche Mode, with Anton Corbijn's involvement in music videos and promotional materials helping to redefine the band's aesthetic.

By the time Depeche Mode released their sixth album "Music for the Masses", the group had reached a turning point in their sound, blending dark, introspective themes with expansive production and was the first album with band member Alan Wilder taking control of the production.

Initially the title "Music for the Masses", released September 28, 1987 must have sounded like an incredibly pretentious boast, except that Depeche Mode then went on to do a monstrous world tour and have their biggest selling album up to that point. #ListeningThroughthe1980s

I generally enjoy "Crazy Nights" for what it is. It did yield commercial singles like "Crazy Crazy Nights" and the power ballad "Reason to Live," but resulted in a somewhat uninspired album with KISS unsuccessfully chasing the styles of much younger bands.

"Reason to Live" and "Turn on the Night" were also released as singles. KISS toured extensively, but despite "Crazy Nights" commercial success, it received primarily poor reviews from both critics and the fans who had followed the band through so many changes.

KISS really broke out the synths on "Crazy Nights", released Sept 21, 1987 as they had been trying for a few years to join the Top 40 chart like other bands. "Crazy Nights" displayed KISS's lack of success in that area was dire. #ListeningThroughthe1980s

History hasn’t been kind to "Hold Your Fire" album. Yet it deserves re-evaluation. The propulsive opener "Force Ten" and the stark "Mission", help its reputation to regain some lustre. It’s still a long way from great, but neither is it as bad as the haters claim it to be.

"Prime Mover" was the second single from "Hold Your Fire" and peaked at #43 in the UK but lacked chart presence in Canada and the U.S.
