Am I really that old that most fans don’t know that essays and 10k+ words interpretations and theories discussing canon and headcanon used to be a regular, popular thing to do in fandom spaces? People used to write ship manifestos that were 100k words long.

inventing a new category of art called: ambitious smut it's when you have a very specific idea in your head powered by the fire in your loins but the universe has not bestowed you the skill to execute it the way you want so you go take poison damage in the corner for 1d8 rounds

I think it’s related to the fandom that the particular fanfic is from. 2nd person is unheard of unless you’re in Disco Elysium or similar, and certain novels in past tense will attract past tense fanfic writers. It is fascinating though
am i allowed to ask why fanfics are always in the present tense rather than like how books are does this makes sense will i be attacked for this
